Possible Solutions to Problems

Yes, I know it is only the 3rd round, and people are saying don't worry, look at last year, but frankly, you dont just win 7 in a row every year.

The good thing is that the problems are fixable, basic problems. Mainly our kicking game, ball control and metres gained.

Problems:
1) One out runs, no one supporting, getting hammered by several opposition players.
2) Slow play the balls.
3) Lack of Direction.
4) Kicking game.
5) Lack of urgency.
6) Unfit
7) Scared to be flamboyant.

Solutions:
1) Easy, pass more, we did that a lot last year where someone would run it up and pass before hitting the line at someone deep and wide.
2) Solving problem 1 will fix this easily.
3) Need someone to shout at each other and not be scared like Eric Grothe did to Hayne in round one. Also need Robson to improve or play from the bench.
4) Tonights stats: Robson 200 KM Hayne 60 KM Both Keatings 120 KM.
IMO, Hayne is our best kicker. He found 20 - 20s often last year and he is just nt kicking enough. Also total KM was 500 and teams like the Dragons clock up 500+ just using their chief play maker (i.e. Soward)
5) Yes, tonight most of their tries were of kicks, so our defense was good, but all it shows is we are slow turning around and getting to the ball.
6) Poore is the worst offender.
7) People like Mateo are in their shell, doesn't do those risky offloads anymore which were a highlight of his game last year.

Flame me all you want, these are just my opinions.

Easy.
Get kk and Morts into the halves.
Robbo to play an 'alan tongue' type of locks game.
bench Mateo

Easy.

Really? I thought Mateo was fine.

Poore, Matt Keating and Robson had complete shockers. Given that two of those three touch the ball more than anyone else on the team might give an indication where it all went wrong.

you know what will fix the kicking game? better go forward. if we make better metres and play the ball quicker the kickers will have less pressure on them and more time to kick, last night the tigers up and in defence gave us no time to kick.
If we get beat by the Sharks next week then we really need to worry.

this..i was thinking the same thing watching the first half.
Robson should never be in the halves again.
Id like to see kk blitz at 5/8 with Hayne
and morts playing at 1/2 feeding balls to everyone.

those i don't like the idea, mateo looks confused/frustrated in his current role. i'd try him at 5/8 again.

Dump mateo

Mateo should be an 80min player... aside from Hayne he is our biggest threat to the oppositions attack. At least he wasnt popping miracle balls to opposition players (caylo)

for those of you that think mateo is our biggest problem, need to think again.until we start getting go forward you can forget about what our backs and MATEO can do,if you were wathching last night you saw what happened when we dominated the ruck and won the go forward for 5 minutes inu scored a great try as a result as it gave tahu and hayne space to move......we just have to be patient..

I think you need your players in there best postions and playing where they want.Mateo is our best ball player and would solve our halves problems.Yes it may leave us thin in the forwards but im sure horo or oake could play the todd lowrie tackling machine game which is all you need from a lock.ry a guy like Lassalo off the bench maybe or this pele guy. They only need to put in 2 x 10-15 min stints

Eels solution is dont think they are favourites, its a mental thing with this team as they do it year after year start bad.
they will come home strong but more losses are on there way, doesnt help knowing that your club has a choker tag as well

Yeah, I'd be happy with that.

Mateo just is looking so tired/unfit before he comes off after 30mins. let him be an impact bench player to throw in when we're behind (most weeks) and need some flair. Poore can stay on the bench until he gets his fitness improved as well.

Robson could do what he does wearing the 13. We do need him out there, for defence and to take the heat off kids like Morts and KK who aren't quite ready to handle the responsibility alone.

We also miss Burt like crazy, he's responsible for talking through a lot of the attacking structure (especially signalling options to Mortimer), has a great footy brain. No coincidence imo that Morts was pulled given Burt wouldn't be out there to guide him on that side.

I was just being nice. I personally wouldnt have Mateo anywhere near my team.

You're crazy

Robson is a warrior, dude made like 30 tackles at half.

Matt Keating is woeful ! like how slow can one deliver the ball to someone. Like he passes and the defence are already up and putting pressure on.

My halves would be
6. Jeff Robson
7.Mortimer

and
9. Kris Keating

Only problem then is that you have issues with to many small dudes in the defensive line.

I got a couple of solutions. Maybe we should bring Fui's son over from NZ. Maybe that will spark him a little.

Also, maybe Fui should grow his hair. Maybe he has lost his strength after cutting it.

I think all of the problems you listed can be summarised in 1 point - lousy attitude so the only solution to that is to improve it .
A lot of people may hate Gould but his description on the sunday roast today of what he saw from them during their warm up and how they looked when they ran onto the ground was spot on , they just aren't pumped up to play footy at the moment - i've no doubt that this will change - hopefully this weekend .
