I'm #3

I didn't know what number to pick at season start so yeah. Went with 3.

Thats my current basketball number!

I wore 63 for the half season I attempted football. Way tougher than it looks, and would prefer to play on the line rather than backer or safety.... those guys are crazy.

Good on you for diving in head first. Best thing you can do as far as I'm concerned. Only thing I would suggest is do everything at a hundred miles an hour. The more you think about getting hurt, the more it seems to happen. But nothing hurts more than the first game, you've clearly survived that, so it's all easy from here! Haha But it's good to read someone getting a new perspective on a sport like this. I love reading all the know-alls that type about how soft the game is because of the helmet & pads, but have no clue to how much of a weapon those things are when used correctly. Rank right up there with the "League only! No room for soccer or AFL!" brigade. I played with two league players, guys with a little pedigree backing them up, not just weekend warriors. One played first grade for Wests & Canberra at a time when dirty wasn't always illegal, was still hard as nails, & I remember early on he would say he was getting beat up in a way he hadn't been before. But my Lord he dished it out triple! The other was probably the most convincing RB I have ever seen, averaged something like 9.4 ypc across a full season. But said similar things about the pain he felt when getting hit.

For anybody else, don't think about it, do it! You don't need to built like a bear with the speed of a cheetah, there truly is a place for anybody in this game.

Legend - Get him down there! Great club, good guys! Also, there's a guy down there who is just a tragic Gridiron fan, best QB Oz has ever produced, as well the most capped player for Aus. If your young fella wants to learn from someone, you could do a lot worse than Dave!

There's four (4) games at Craik Park on Sept 14th kicking off 10/1/4/7pm, two (2) on Nov 9th 4/7pm, & two (2) games on Sept 16th 4/7pm.

Now with pictures!

So we have played 6 games. 1-5 on the season.

We were smashed in the first three games by the Wildcats, Spears and Gladiators. Didnt score a point. Then had an awesome win in the dying seconds of the 4th game vs Firebirds. 16-15. 2 TD's with 2 point conversions.
mostly people go for these as kicking fieldgoals at this level is f**king hard.
Fifth game we were routed as we lost 3 quarterbacks in the match against Tuggeranong. Last week we lost for the second time against the Wilcats but did move the ball reasonably ok. Scored 2 TD's in a 26-12 loss even with our 4th QB of the season on hand.

Basically the Canberra league is dominated by a team called Central Spears (who we play this week again), who have the majority of the polinesean players in the league all in the one team. Its the way they formed it. They have the best QB, a bloke named Joe who apparently represents New Zealand. He's big and fast and dominates.
The next best are the Tuggers Tornados and the Gladiators. Both are experienced teams with big tough players that hit hard and play close to the edge.
The Gunghalin WIidcats have 3 wins, two against us and one agains UC.
UC are having a really bad season. They have lost to us and the wildcats and are really struggling.
We are clear botton for two reasons.
First is experience. We have a lot of good players who have come up from juniors. Our Juniors have been premiers 3 out of the last 4 seasons. But senior footy is alot harder for these guys. Theres a lot of experience in the league and it shows. Our O line gets pushed backwards alot and as a result we are down to our 4th string QB and im the starting runningback lol.
There's a meanness that adult players have that kids dont. like we have a 17 year old centre who is a good player but routinely gets bullied by 35 year olds with 10 years of experience under their belt.
That said we are all having a great time. and the win against UC Firebirds (first win ever over them in the club history in seniors) was a special day.

Second is our team is noticeable smaller than the other teams. Most of our talent is in the secondary and the WR/RB. our lines on both sides are not as good as the other squads. some of this is down to training, we have haphazard training like all amateur sports.
Our team is a really small team physically by comparison. The Wildcats would be the closest to us and they have outplayed us twice.
We have also been unlucky with injury.

Our most experienced player has been out with knee and thumb injuries.
our second string QB did his medial and meniscus on a late hit.
our 3rd string qb and best running back has had 2 concussions and is out for the year.

anyway heres some photos and a description of whats more or less happening.

The #9 Scott is a good player. Young kid like 18, Plays DE.
Plays tough. he's going to be good.

This one is vs Tornados in week 5. The bloke in blue has the ball returning a punt after a safety.

Im in the background coming across and i managed to bring him down short of the goal line. Unfortunately they scored on the next play. I recorded 5 tackles at safety in this game.

anyway, its a great sport to play. way harder than i thought it would be. i love it.

And it's bad news.
We got smashed agains today.

I'm typing this at the canberra hospital where I will require surgery for a fractured fibula, torn ligaments and displaced foot or some crap.

Football is hard.

Horrendous. Good luck with the recovery mate

this is precisely why i decided to give it a miss, i looked into this seriously about 18 months ago. I was in good but not great shape but frankly saw too many guys with serious injuries and decided i probably didnt need to risk sitting on crutches for 3 months
