Premier League on TV

Further to prior discussions we have had on the matter, I'd like to share some of my observations and thoughts of the past few weeks.

HOME MATCHES

It doesn't only have to be Newtown, Norths, Wests and Balmain having home matches. The Cougars also play stand alone fixtures as has Canberra. Further, since we are talking about the Saturday arvo timeslot, you could broadcast the PL curtain raiser to the 5.30pm NRL match (if applicable) or take a leaf out of Club Rah Rahs book and replay the Friday night fixture on Saturday arvo. So all clubs would be able to have their home games on TV.

AFL BROADCASTS

Watching the Fox Footy Cannel in the pub last Friday night (it was a tiny tiny screen next to the big screen showing the RL Test), I saw that they were broadcasting UNSW-Easts v East Coast Eagles in the local Sydney AFL comp. And this is a regular occurrence. I understand the QLD AFL is on as well.

What a disgrace that they get those matches televised and we can't get PL on. Is there really such a low care factor at the NSWRL? They pursue the sport at all levels and the exposure tranlates into bums on seats and cash. Our administrators care about NRL only because they never want to take a chance and they and they are afraid of spending money. You have to spend money to make money. It does suck but it sucks more after seeing the Sydney AFL comp on TV.

Food for thought guys.

I also saw that cracker of a game on the AFL channel. What is doing and perhaps a petition to be sent to the league to invest some money in the game and give sponsors greater value for money and provide all clubs with more opportunity to generate more revenue at the expense of other codes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Channel 9 owned the broadcasting rights to premier league games? It's just that Channel 9 don't think there would be an audience for it, however refuse to allow other channels such as channel 2 and foxtel from broadcasting the games.

They no longer have any rights and it is open slather. and the ABC is interested but the league do not want to contribute to get more footy on TV.

Would it be possible for the ABC to show the games without having to spend too much money on getting the rights?

Just think of the interest that would generate in the PL.... It would be such a huge boost to see teh Jets/Bears/Maggies back on the telly on a Saturday arvo.

I needn't think it would cost that much. Heck, I'm sure if the NSWRL paid for it and gave it to them for free, they'd still come out on top. All the additional coverage would command additional sponsorship dollars, hence a boost for the NSWRL.

The same goes for the NRL's Premier League clubs. If you got them onside, by saying their club would get more exposure and they could sell that to sponsors (which is a reasonable forecast to make) they too would support it.
