Match summary
The match started in sunshine and finished under lights, with overcast skies and a few showers in between.
The Jets opened the scoring with an unconverted try but the Tigers posted and converted two tries before the Jets troubled the scorer again towards the end of the first half.
From the end of the first half and well into the second, the Jets were on top, taking the contest from trailing 4-12 to leading 26-12.
At 30-18, the Jets looked well on their way to a win, expecially as the Tigers had had a man sent off quite early in the second half, but the Tigers came back, levelled the scores and then kicked a field goal with only minutes to go.
Even then, the Jets had chances to score and claim victory but could not capitalise on the chances on offer.
Newtown 30 [Richard Kambo, Troy Savage, Jason Wells, Jason Baitieri, Ray Moujalli, Chris Tuatara-Morrison tries; Tu'u Maori [2], Liam Foran goals]
Balmain Ryde-Eastwood 31 [5 tries; 5 goals; 1 field goal]
Half-Time: Newtown led 20-12.
Referee: Shane Sharman; Touch Judges: Dave Ryan, Peter Sciberras.

About the Trevor Ryan-Neil Pringle Shield and Solidarity Cup
The Jets and the Tigers compete on an annual basis for the Trevor Ryan-Neil Pringle Shield, a trophy which honours the two 1970's NSW representatives who played with distinction at both clubs. The Ryan-Pringle Shield is currently in the possession of the Tigers.
In 2010, a second trophy comes into contention between the two clubs, with the announcement that the Maritime Union of Australia will be the match-day sponsor for this Saturday's Newtown-Balmain showdown, and for subsequent Jets-Tigers matches at Henson Park.
The trophy was appropriately named the Solidarity Cup, recognising the industrial working-class heritage of both of these NSW Rugby League foundation clubs.

Glenn, I'd rate this report 2/10, round 1, your still a little rusty but will improve with time ( one would hope)
seeing you walking head bowed with your man bag under your arm shuffling your feet and mumbling under your breath when the jets blew it.... PRICELESS
