Sounds promising and I hope they can work something out.

Priddis wants long-term contract
By Peter Badel
March 5, 2006

PENRITH's hopes of retaining Luke Priddis have soared with the former Test hooker revealing his desire to finish his career with the club.

Off-contract at season's end, Priddis has an option in his favour for 2007 and has until the end of April to tell Penrith whether he intends being on board next year.

He is keen to remain at the Panthers, particularly if they offer a long-term deal. The 2003 Clive Churchill medal winner would be satisfied with a two-year extension, which would tie him to Penrith until the end of 2009.

"I do have an option in my favour for next year but I would like my contract to be a bit longer," Priddis said.

"I've indicated to the club that I want to finish my career here so it would be great to do that.

"Ideally, I'd like another two years on top of next year. By then I would be 32 and that would probably be enough to pull up stumps on my career."

But Priddis has not ruled out a switch of clubs.

It is understood the Gold Coast are keen to lure the former Broncos rake, although they cannot approach him until the anti-tampering ban ends on July 1.

"The whole thing with John Lang (Penrith coach, who was told a fortnight ago he would not be at the club next year) shows rugby league is a business these days," said Priddis, a veteran of 222 first-grade games.

"There are still some one-club men but at the end of the day you have to look after yourself and your family.
"There are a few goals I still want to achieve. I have an ambition to get back into rep football and I'd also like to get to 300 career games.

"If I can't look to achieve those goals at Penrith, then I may have to do that somewhere else."

Penrith operations manager Mick Leary said the club wants to retain Priddis and will assess him on a year-by-year basis should he take up the option in 2007.

"I really hope Luke takes the option up because he is the most professional footballer I've come across. His value to the club is enormous," Leary said.

He's being a realist by keeping the door ajar, but has stated his desire to stay.

Let's hope it happens!

Could be trouble ahead. Priddis wants a long term contract Leary is saying if he takes his option they'll look at him on a year to year basis. Sure they will work something out though.

I AGREE ! :p
Give Luke Priddis, what he wants, because if he leaves, he will leave a very big hole in the Penrith team. Luke Priddis always give 110% each game.

he's the only player that has been consistantly awsome for 3 years...give him what he wants to stay for another 3.

I hope he stays with the panthers.

Can I just give a bit of a rap to Luke here? Last week (or maybe the week before...) he came and gave a motivational speech to the kids in Yr 10 at Nepean High. To say that he impressed the kids there would be an understatement. My daughter works in Penrith and a couple of days later he was in her shop, and recognised her, spoke to her again, and gave hre a final tip "Don't stay here forever, retail ain't all that good. ;)"

SO well done Luke, and good luck with re-signing at Penrith. Hopefully they'll respect his desire to stay there.

His more then welcome to join the knights we can always use a back up in PL, though he'd be sitting behind Luke Quigley, but with his piss poor worth ethic he'd probably love being a benchie.

you are an absolute tool , if you knew anything about rugby league you would appreciate the fact that priddis is one of the best hookers going around and is also one of the hardest working players .
He , imo , is a classic hooker unlike buderus who is a 5/8 pretending to be a hooker.

Mr Baldachino (Nepean High Principal) was my PE teacher in 1982 at Springwood High. Champion bloke! I remember about that time he ran in the city to surf with one of the students and both finished in the top '100' possibly top 50. I can't remember exactly. I spoke to him late last year. He still looks very fit. His wife was.......and probably still is a very good golfer.

Regarding Priddis. Just nudges Roycie out as Penrith's greatest hooker so far, with Mike Stephenson running 3rd. Shannon Donnato up there for having the best attitude of any Panther and tremendous work ethic.

I agree with previous posts. Without being ridiculous with the money.........we need to do whatever it takes to get his signature on that contract. He's the type of player who could fill in in the #7, #6, and possible #13 if required, and do a good job.

Just one thing though - I hope out of this we still manage to hold on to Aiton. Big wraps on the kid, and went really well in the trials.
