Priddis doesnt go close to Wing and to a lesser extent Buderus.

To me, Priddis is the number one contender for Buderus' specialist hooker spot.

Wing is a utility and is almost a certainty if the form that he has shown over the past few years continues

Specialist Hooker....they are the key words. In today's game when scrums arent a contest, Hookers have to be able to do more than rake. The 2 things "Specialist Hookers" must be able to do is feed ball from dummy half, defend one side of the ruck and run the ball. Wing is the best ball runner from dummy half in the game, although defensively Priddis and Wing are on par as is their ball service. Wing also adds another dimension with his kicking game, something Priddis and Buderus dont match him in.

Wing is no where near as good as Priddis in defence. It's an unfortunate situation at the moment for number 9's, because there are just so many quality hookers in the game at the moment. A lot of it has to do with former half backs playing hooker.

Priddis is a fine player, but Buderus has been superb for NSW, and if Johns is playing that just adds to his case.

Wing will obvioulsy play too.

Priddis is just unlucky to have so many fine hookers playing at the same time as him - so is Woolford, and when it comes to Aust so is MArsh

Wing is superb in defence. As good as Priddis. As I said, Wing's role as an attacking Hooker beats Priddis to rep honours. Simple but true.

You're welcome to your opinion I guess, even if it is wrong.

  I actually agree with melon on this one (Priddis is a fine player though) - but melon would probably say that Mick Crocker's a better hooker than Priddis too

Wing is a benchie in top company-He cant help that
LOL, good one. Craig Wing is one of the top 5/6 players in the comp, let alone being the games best hooker. No other hooker in the comp consistently wins matches for his club as Wingy does. Priddis had a great game in the Grand Final, and was one of the more worthy Churchill medal winners there will ever be, but over the season Wingy was number one. I lost count of how many times he cleaned up in the 3-2-1 votes over the year.

Wing is like Des Hasler and Steve Ella - too versatile for their own good he will be the sort of player who will get a spot on the bench everytime but won't be able to nail a permanent position. Personally I think he should be the hooker for NSW this year but the fact he can play anywhere effectively from 1 -7 as well as at hooker he'll be on the bench.
Wing is more so a victim of his own freakish ability more than his versility. Versitility is one thing (as in just being able to fill-in in other positions), but to finish in the top 5 of the Dally M's playing a year at half, playing like a matchwinner at 5/8 for NSW including being by far their best player in the 3rd Origin in a losing side, and being one of Australia's stand-outs on the Kangaroo tour playing at centre is completely another. My point is, because he is so good in numerous positions people tend to forget about the fact that his best position is hooker. He is a fulltime hooker and will play there for many years to come.

His defence is very underrated as melon stated. Infact he missed far, far less tackles than Buderus last year. But when it comes to attack, he is on a completely different level to Priddis and Buderus. Thats what separates him from the rest and I dont see how anyone can dispute that.

1. Wing
2. Buderus
3. Priddis
4. Marsh

Question is though, how is a rep side best constructed - IMO it is best, in that situation, to start Buderus, and have Wing on the bench. Because hos impact value is huge

I rate Priddis very highly, higher than Buderus but i can't see him being selected as hooker for the Blues.
The selectors will most likely go with Buderus because he has been the hooker for the Blues for a while now and always does the job.
Priddo is better though and just until either Johns retires or Buderus does or he has an injury or something then Priddo will get his chance.

PRIDDIS DESERVES NSW SELECTION BUT IT WONT HAPPEN BECAUSE OF THE ABOVE WHICH IS DISAPPOINTING SEEING HIS TALENT GO TO WASTE.

Mick Crocker is the incumbent Australian 5/8.....he's better than everyone! :D

Well I think its fair to say Buderus got the points tonight by unanimous decision. Everyone is mentioning Priddis at the moment and I'm not going to say he's not a great player but how people can say Buderus had a bad 2003 is beyond me, he was the Knights player of the year last year and did a fine job in all his rep games, sure he's not going to dominate in rep football, but lets face it, is Luke Priddis going to dominate when players like Johns, Wing, Minicheillo, Barrett and Kennedy are playing on the same team?

Priddis is definitely the type of player that could easily slot into the Blues or Kangaroos, and do the job superbly. He has done wonders at Penrith in the couple of season he has been there.

However, Buderus has done nothing wrong in rep footy, and is currently seen as the incumbent. If his form of last night maintains throughout the season, he has the spot for as long as he wants it...

Bedsy played better than Priddis last night. I don't think there is much at all between them. They have a very similar style of play. Bedsy will keep his #9 blues jumper unless he gets an injury.

I agree that Wing should be in the NSW side, but on the bench due to versatility. His defence is o.k, but not as good as Priddis or Buderus.

Priddis in the 2001 origin series was NSW best player IMO. He chased everything and was the only defender besides Mark Hughes anywhere near the tryline when QLD made a breakaway.

Buderus has it on all of them in terms of general play and the ability to ignore Johns and take the play on his own.thats a big gamble.
Wing is a benchie and always will be cause of his ability to cover any position in the backline. Its not a criticism of him...Its just how things are
You can argue till the cows come home but buderus is the incumbent/works and plays with johns and did nothing wrong last night to get MOM award
