Assuming we were at the 2013 Cap level we should have an additional $2.5m+ for next year if we offload the following players:

Best estimates:
Marshall (offer $750k turned down), Blair $500k, Moltzen ($250k), Ayshford ($200k), Utai ($75k), Tuquiri ($75k), Pettybourne ($150k), Anasta ($200k), Thompson ($150k), Groat ($125k), Bell ($100k).

We will need to sign/extend and upgrade youngsters on potential however, we should be hunting for Gun Second Rowers and rep level players.

It doesn't quite work out all that straight forward though. Certain players such as Benji and maybe Moltz and Ayshford can have all sorts of cap discounts due to being a club junior or for 10 years, they might have 3rd party top up deals or some such. Basically we might be paying Benji $6-700k but under the cap it may have counted as $4-500k.

Also, I think Bell represents great value for money depth wise and would not be looking to offload him just yet. Undecided on Groat and Anasta still has one more year and may be needed for depth at half in the case of an injury.

Just means we might not have quite as much to spare as it looks.

I am in agreement about getting into the market to buy a gun second rower but we should sign a proven player on reasonable overs if required but we shouldn't just squander it on anyone and we need to be sure we are not under any more back-paying contracts.

Given we are losing, from confirmed reports Marshall and Ayshford. And that Moltz has been shopped around the UK and that Utai and Tiquiri probably wont be offered new deals, I dont expect the club to cut any more. It would be crazy to just start eating away at our depth for the sake of it.

This bunch by itself is conservatively worth a $1mln even with concessions.

We should be in the market for two marquee forwards. and perhaps some forward depth.

Mayer was pretty clear in saying that we'll be looking at marquee talent for 2015 rather than next year. We've missed the boat on the 2014 field.

I say don't lose any players we want to keep (young up and comers) and save the pennies for 2015. I think we are OK now for props, we need another two top class second rowers and a good backup hooker....

There might be some interest in top line players coming to the club now they see management is serious, players talk to each other, there would be some players who would not have come here under the old coach and the Benji culture....
