Olympic Park in Melbourne was sold out for the Sydney FC v Melbourne A-League match. If Soccer can get 20 000 in why does Rugby League draw in less than 5 000????

Why? Because Rugby League is NOT and WILL NOT work in Melbourne

Bingo. half the population are Greek and Italian. Add to that the fine job the NRL and Channel 9 have done in Melbourne promoting the game (12.30 am replays of match of the day and Ignoring Origin altogether) I am surprised they got that many.

Close minded idiots like FitzJerkoff and his ilk should try comparing like products. AFL got a foot hold in Sydney and Melbourne cos the networks and the Media gave it a shot. Yet in Melbourne, sportslover Central, League - the greatest game of all gets treated like Badminton's 2nd class drug addict cousin.

Channel 9, our supposed friends shopuld be given a major kick up the A$$ for letting this ever occur

It's bit early to compare the A League crowds in Melbourne to the Storm crowds.

The Storm averaged 12,717 in their first season and a bit more than that in the two subsequent years and they were up against AFL the whole time.

Denis Fitzgerald would be so proud of you . But I agree, it won't work in Melbourne.

People fail to see that football is popular, but most football supporters follow overseas competitions. Now that football is starting to get serious in Australia, it's attracting those supporters who didn't support the NSL.

I fail to see how this has anything to do with the Storm. The Storm had good crowds when they first started also. Difference here is the FFA is supporting the Victory (and all of it's other teams), while the NRL is content to sit on their hands and do nothing.

At least Denis Fitzgerald isn't sitting on an internet forum taking shots at Denis Fitzgerald, is he?

He's outspoken, so what? Get over it. I don't mind him actually.

That's a quality post. Maybe it's because the round ball game is gaining in popularity in Australia.

No, he is one of the few that isn't. I even think an outspoken person that thinks occasionally is good for the code. You know? Shakes things up a bit. Gets people thinking.

I have seen no such evidence that Denis Fitzgerald has ever thought before opening his mouth.

Comparing The Victory and The Storm is pointless.

Football already has a huge supporter base in Melbourne, and just about everywhere in Aus. Offcourse when they get a proper team they are going to outdraw a League club.

A complete one eyed moron. So long as RL is in Sydney with 28000 at an international game (when the Waratahs get more to a Stupid 12 game) , then Im happy syndrome!

Get a brain on your way out pal. Melbourne is here to stay, so roll on Perth!

Newcastle are only averaging about 8,000 in the A-League, which is less than the Knights. Should FFA forget about the Hunter then?
Same with NZ Knights?

Football is a national sport, so it was always going to be easier to establish a team in Victoria than it was for the Storm.
Sydney FC are averaging nearly 20,000, should the NRL then say any Sydney clubs getting less than that is a failure?
