Unless she's pre-ordered it for you already, you probably won't be getting it for Christmas. EB Games have already said that anything pre-ordered after July 5 likely won't be received until 2014.

Just to back up Fiery_Dragon - Today I contacted the EB games store I pre-ordered my console at and they said that only people who placed pre-orders places before July 5 will get a PS4 on launch day. Anything after that will be waiting until 2014

Shouldn't pre-orders give them an indication of how many they will need for launch, so just keep on making them.

I think in this case and also the case of the XB1 demand has well and truly exceeded supply

All the stores that sell games near me eg EB and JB Hi Fi had warnings up saying that both consoles would sell out in pre-orders

They were only provided limited numbers.

There is a rumour that a second shipment will arrive in Australia mid December.

if you want a console, might need to go to stores such as harvey norman, bing lee or good guys, but they will have limited stock.

There have been over 1 million pre-orders worldwide. It's the highest number for Sony that they've had.

It's not about being short in one market or another, they're launching in 32 countries. North America will probably have quickly stocked shelves, everywhere else will have limited numbers until that demand subsides somewhat.

The xbox 360 had the same problem, for the first 6 months it would go back on sale for a week then you wouldn't see it in stores again for another 2 months.

Second round of PS4 stock mightn’t hit shelves until 2014: Aussie retailer
August 21, 2013

EB Games Australia has today sent an email to customers telling them that any new PlayStation 4 pre-order would only ‘reserve (their) place in the queue for 2014′.
This is despite the same email heralding the console’s Gamescom announcement that it will launch on 29 November in Australia.
EB Games is Gamestop’s Australian cousin, and is Australia’s largest dedicated gaming retailer.
That it can only guarantee 2014 for any new pre-orders indicates both the strength of the initial demand for the console in Australia, and that a second round of PS4 offerings may not be available until as late as the new year.
EB Games Australia has actively responded to consumer concerns on Twitter, stating that pre-orders placed prior to 5 July would be guaranteed for day one.
After that, should you have placed or do place a pre-order, then “you secure a place in a queue.” it’s social media team posted.

Word on the streets is if you avoid pre ordering at the big obvious places eg: eb games and jb hi fi, you should be able to get it launch day. I will be checking out local big w's and also Harvey Norman's and get back to you.

Dick Smith still has preorders available. Plus they do 12mths interest free on it.

Argh! I knew I shouldn't have trusted that guy from my local EB Games! Really annoyed now, ah well, I'll go slap down a pre-order tomorrow morning. Cheers for this dude. Are you sure they are doing day one pre-orders?

Just a word of warning,

Whilst my pre-order is with DSE, they do not actually know how much stock they are receiving. They are still accepting pre-orders based on this aspect, therefore even pre-ordering now does not guarantee it will be provided on release day.

Better place those pre-orders ASAP.
