PSP development grant for Sidhe

Sidhe Interactive secures a government research grant from Technology New Zealand to assist with development for Sony's upcoming PSP handheld.

Sidhe Interactive today announced that it has secured a government research grant from Technology New Zealand to assist with development for the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld scheduled for release later this year. No information concerning any PSP games that Sidhe has in development has been released at this time, but a handheld version of its Rugby League game would almost certainly help to ensure the new console's popularity in New Zealand and Australia.

"The Technology NZ funding complements our own significant investment, allowing us to accelerate our research program for this exciting new platform," said Tyrone McAuley, technical director at Sidhe.

"Tech NZ been proud to support Sidhe Interactive as a strong technology innovator," added Richard Hall, investment manager at Technology NZ. "We see great potential in the videogame sector as part of New Zealand's strengthening creative digital industry."

We'll bring you more information on Sidhe Interactive's plans for the PSP as soon as it becomes available.

Playstation Portable. Basically a Dreamcast in a case the size of a glasses case?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong with that comparison.

Essentially, what we have disclosed so far is that we are developing technology for the platform.

We are not announcing any titles at this stage, but our licensed developer status for PSP does mean that a possible Rugby League sequel could be seen on the platform.

When we have actual news about what we are developing, or when plans for a possible RL sequel solidify I'll be sure to post here (would have posted this release but was heading out the door when I sent it out).

I have a "winning eleven" game on gba - it plays a mean game of football (soccer). The only beef i have with it is that the menus are entirely in japanese (it's an import) so I have a great deal of trouble getting a game started ;)
