Hopefully Maguire doesn’t get a head coaching job anytime soon.Imo his only hope is the warriors. It would seriously be insane to employ someone who has presided over a team that has continued to regress over the last 4 yrs. It’s absolutely essential we extend JH’s contract b4 Nov 1.
I guess it depends on who you consider was being incompetent, him or the players?
IMO, many, many times the players dogged it?
I guess we will find out soon enough?

Clearly both players & coach were abjectly inept.Maguires performance/record was atrocious.3.5 yrs of sliding down the ladder underscoring no improvement while he was at the helm. His position became untenable last season especially after the disgraceful effort v the wooden spooners. He made a no. of terrible judgement calls which came back to haunt him none worse than believing that brooks could own/game manage the team as he signed off on the catastrophic upgrade of the pathetic gumps contract.Hence the buck stops with the coach.Personally I’m glad to see the back of him as we just wasted 4 yrs under the clueless temperamental halfwit.

I don't believe this. I think he was just looking for a better option. Once he got that in Hastings he changed his approach pretty quickly.

Madge is gone because we are shit. The big question is can we get a new coach who can somehow help turn us from shit into good.

Madge is gone coz he exceedingly failed to meet his Kpi’s.His coaching record while at concord was abysmal. After 3.5 yrs we were in a worse position than we were at end of his 1st yr.This after he had autonomy with assembling the squad & was not hamstrung by the cap.The club made the obvious decision to sack him albeit 1 yr too late.Good luck to him trying to attain another head coaching job but u would deadset be off ur rocker to employ him after his appalling coaching record at Concord.

I think Madge has his place but only in a certain situation. Somewhere like Melbourne would be my pick. Now that Smith and co have retired I'm not sure. If you could get Smith and Slater around the boys with Madge as coach I think it would be great. You need a strong leadership group which in our case doesn't exist.
I do feel sorry for him, we extended him last year, which we never should have done, didn't sack him when we should have and then pulled the trigger now when we shouldn't have.

Knight hunting another Tigers playmaker

After reportedly making a big play for Luke Brooks in the off-season, the Knights have now set their sights on Jackson Hastings.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported the Knights have had discussions about luring Hastings to Newcastle for 2023.

Hastings is contracted to the Tigers until the end of 2023, but after Michael Maguire’s departure his future at the club remains uncertain.

Hastings’ management share a close relationship with Knights recruitment manager Clint Zammit.

Hastings is currently on a deal worth $375,000 in 2022, but that increases to around $500,000 next season.

The Tigers also have Adam Doueihi and Luke Brooks signed for next season, while Jock Madden is off-contract this year and is looking for a new deal at the Tigers or at an NRL rival.

The Tigers have a mandate to develop the youngsters coming through the ranks, which opens the possibility of Hastings moving on to secure a long-term deal elsewhere if he is not part of the club’s future plans.

That would be a tough pill to swallow for Tigers fans as Hastings has been one of their best players this season.

The 26-year-old has scored three tries and 92 points in 56 NRL games for the Roosters, Sea Eagles and Tigers since his debut in 2014, while he played 86 games in four Super League seasons for Salford and Wigan.

Can almost hear the board now saying they can save $125k a year if we let him go?

agree with the first part

not the second

Who would you have above him ?

1st tier:- Reynolds, DCE, Cleary
2nd tier:- Hughes, Hynes , Moses , Ben Hunt.

I think Hastings is good enough to fit into that 2nd tier. I also think he is injured and he our forward pack is the worst in the game.

Put it this way. We shouldn't be paying Hastings marquee dollars or anywhere close to it.

If I was the Tigers coach though I'd be running with a Hastings/Doueihi combination for the rest of the year. Brooks can play the utility role to see if we can get some value out of him.

Brooks should b playing in NSW cup where he belongs. The sooner the club fks this liability off the better. Can’t think of any player in NRL who is stealing as much a lucrative living as this pathetic gump.
