Jul 03 - The following email was received today by Michael Leary, Matt Elliott and Glenn Matthews from Les Galbraith, Chairman of the 'Cure Our Kids' cancer foundation. Not a word has been added or deleted:
"Dear Michael/Matthew & Glenn, after a tough match on Saturday evening your entire Penrith Panthers squad took the time out of their day off on Sunday to visit the children at the Westmead Children’s Hospital, Oncology ward.

"I was extremely impressed with the sincerity and generosity of these young men. No media, no fuss and no pretence, just taking the time to meet with the families and children who have a big and very difficult journey ahead of them.

"Led by Tony Puletua and Craig Gower, they all talked individually about their personal ambitions that often included comments about just helping out others. After a few hours they then took the time to do some painting activities with the kids. Frank Puletua was a big hit with the kids because of his outstanding portrait skills – there is no doubt his portraits of some of the children hang proudly above their beds.

"I was touched by the efforts of Craig Gower who took the time to talk about the challenges of life with one of the terminally ill patients parents for over an hour. You could see Craig offering support and a shoulder to lean on as they talked about the future ahead.

"Please take the time to thank and congratulate the boys on our behalf. Despite some disappointments in the season (yes I am a supporter) – it's these qualities that add value to our community and they should be proud of this initiative. The Oncology ward at Westmead, the kids and families and Cure Our Kids foundation are very grateful for their efforts.

"Regards, Les."

What these kids and their families go through puts our quibbiling about who should play where all into perspective doesn't it. And for one of the few times this season I can say well done to the blokes.

I a;ways tell my kids 'People are starving in Africa" when they are whinging about things. It does put it all in perspective. After all........it is just a game of footy. I was entertained last Saturday night, even if we didn't win the first grade fixture.

You should have been entertained Fibro, you are your son enjoyed Kilkennys hospitality using my season tickets on the half way line in the western stand. Free of charge, again. I on the other hand was thoroughly depressed and did not enjoy the first grade fixture one bit. I will definitely not drive to the next home game. My eldest son can drive me home so at least I can dull the pain by copious amounts of amber fluid, hopefully paid for by you Fibro.

You can consider yourself very fortunate your parents were up from the country visiting you which meant you were unable to accompany the Kilkenny clan to telstra.

$180 dollar evening taking into account petrol, parking, shuttle bus, Maccas, admission charges, beer and half time snacks. Personally I would have preferred to have put that money in a machine at the paceway and lost it in a heartbeat. No more away games for Kilkenny this season, I have had enough.

Ease up! The pace way sold me a $140 six pack courtesy of the sheriffs.

While there is no doubt this evenings result is another huge kick in the teeth for Panthers fans the performance of Ritchie Williams really was a huge positive. If our other current signings Petro, Woolnough, Tighe and McCrone show the same sort of potential that Williams did last week and again tonight we are looking reasonably good.

Assuming the inevitable happens and Priddis and Big T find alternative arrangements we will have another $500K or so to spend on the compisition of the next generation of Panthers. This is not such a bad thing.

It is surely time to blood Jarrod Sammut starting this week. Ritchie Williams to 5/8 and Jarrod Sammut to fullback. Let's see what young Jarrod is made off. Does he have the right stuff to be our equivalent of Matt Bowen. It's surely time to find out.

There's no doubt in my mind that Williams will eventually be moved to 5/8 but we need to enlist a protector like Tony Carroll. One thing that went for Preston is that he was fearless and would throw his body on the line to be a speed bump. I'm not sure Williams is up to that standard yet.

One could say there is a new sherrff in town (aka Eddie Murphy in the movie 48 Hours) and it ain't Fibroman!

Stick to the Golden Canaries, Fibroman. I seem to recall you have a win on that machine back in the mid 90's.

King of denial is the go. At least it takes twice as long to get sucked on the feature.

You are in denial, fullstop. Get an appointment with Doctor Gus. You know what I mean. Compulsive disorder is a treatable condition. Supporting the underachieving Panthers can be treated. There is medication and therapy available. Six weeks of rehab and you will come out a Roosters supporter. Happy days.

At least you could flash your season ticket and get a free tank of petrol when you buy a car from Politas. All Mick Leary would give you is a swift kick box to the head and a half a valium.
