Its on again! The F7s Possibles vs Probables Knockout Tournament kicks off in November 2006.

The Possibles v Probables (PVP) tournament is open to all all comers. It is made up of newcomer teams who will compete against established F7s teams who have agreed to take part in the PVP.

The PVPs are effectively a series of trial matches before the 2007 season kicks off.

And it is a trial in every sense of the word. In addition to teams having a go, we will be trialing new referees, and we might even try out a few proposed rule changes.

THE PVP TOURNAMENT IS OPEN TO ALL COMERS

Team captains and referees, please register your interest here in this thread.

The makeup of the tournament will be decided once we know who is taking part.

The idea behind the PVP is to give teams an opportunity to show that they can field a full team and play at a level where they can compete in the full Forum Sevens competition.

Win lose or draw, the teams with the best organisation will be considered when the invitations for the 2007 Forum Sevens competition are issued, early in the new year.

Winning the PVP is not the main criteria, and does not automatically guarantee an invitation into the 2007 competition. This is decided by the F7s Committee which will meet over the off-season and they will look at how the team conducted themselves over trial period. This includes non-PVP trial matches.

Any teams wishing to compete in the PVPs are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the rules

To get the gist of how it worked last year, click here: http://f7s.leagueunlimited.com/pvp2005.asp

If there's any questions, feel free to ask.

Cheers and good luck. :thumn

Willow, do you have approximate dates when the PvP will run? The Eels would like to take part but need to check we'll have enough players available at the time.

November. I can't say for sure until I know the numbers.

But lets say Nov 5 - Nov 29 (don't hold me to it lol)

Last year we had 8 teams and it ran from Oct 30 - Dec 7. About 5 weeks.
I don't think we'll have 8 teams this time - 4 or 6 seems more likely.

An overview:
We try to give teams at least two matches each with those defeated in the opening round playing each other for the PVP Plate. The undefeated teams compete for the PVP Shield.

The 'PVP Cup' is held over as a challenge match between the Shield and Plate winners. For the last two seasons, they have competed for this in the opening round of the F7s premiership.

Excellent.

Btw, I'll be scheduling the guest refs for the duration of the PVPs while antonius has a well earned break.

I wouldn't mind doing a bit of reffing just for the fun of it, no intentions of abandoning the Eels in 07 for a refs job, but to get a chance to be on the other side of the game would be awesome.

We'll be looking for some more Non-Playing refs next year. For those that ref during the PVP's and want to continue playing next season and do a bit of reffing as well we can put them on the "Guest" refs list. So the more we can get having a go during the PVP's the better, we really do need more refs.

Looks like we have more refs than teams. lol

How about a 'Marauders' team made up of refs and guest refs?

ie 'Marauders' as opposed to 'Barbarians'. Anyone familiar with the concept will know it as a team with no playing roster, no home ground, and no clubhouse,.. but meet occasionally to play against local teams.

The Bluebags will field a team.

It'll give newcomers a go, plus any established player who still has the writing bug.
