Sorry Donkeys, but I do think you’re the only one missing the Scorpions. But I used the play in a Touch team called the Scorpz in honour of your lost team, so I think there might be handful of people out there that would see them fondly return.
Is there any existing entity of the Scorpions left? I was just thinking could one of the local Clubs (like Brothers, Rochedale or Springwood) build QRL aspirations to develop up to compete for a licence? If so, would you get behind them?
I enquired about converting one of the local teams into the Scorpions in 2013 after reading an article in the
Albert & Logan News about merging Slacks Creek Lions, Easts Springwood Tigers and Rochedale Tigers into a club based out of Cronulla Park. Div 1 Councillor Lisa Bradley returned me call and then State MP for Woodridge Desly Scott said she would support my proposal for a team at Cronulla Park if I could get enough people to field a side. The bloke who put together the idea of merging three clubs into one never returned my call. Neither did the councillor who is now mayor of Logan. Cronulla Park was gifted to Springwood Pumas fumbleball club. It was a real kick in the arse considering the LCC saddled the Scorpions with an exorbitant 15 year lease of Meakin Park in 1988 that saddled the club in debt due to being more expensive than the combined leases of every other sports club in the city. Scorpions always wanted to play at Cronulla Park but were made to play at Meakin Park.
I ran the LoganScorpions.com site a decade ago when I researched the club's history at the State Library. I learned about the bad things Bennett and the Broncos did to the Scorpions in 1988 when John Barber coached them in the BRL. That really turned me against the Broncos for many years.
I would support the Tigers, but not Brothers as I hate their brand. Their logo looks like it was drawn by a drunk.
The LCC wound the club up at the end of their lease in 2002 and gave their ground to the Brisbane Strikers. The Juniors were wound up in 2003. The Leagues Club no longer exists.
