Queensland need bigger backs

I agree with both of the main points Gould made during the telecast last night.

1) The Queensland team needs to not stand and wait for the defence so much;

2) The Queensland team need bigger backs..they definitely need Hodges next year. And they need at least 1 big winger..the wingers they've had since Sailor and Tuqiri have all been small guys.

Are there any other bigger Qld eligible backs? Maybe Bell?

I said it after game 2, I'll say it again, we really miss Lote Tuqiri and Wendell Sailor.

Gus got it right last night, QLD need bigger backs. Even Berrigan was overwhelmed all series. Hodges and Tonga will have to be there next year. No idea who theyll put on the wing though sizewize. Frawley?

3rd time lucky for him I think...He's what they need - a big attacking centre whose defence is improving

Exactly, QLD do need bigger backs.
1. Slater - Bowen did little wrong but his attacking potentcy is severely hampered in the Origin arena. He's a good little player, but back to the bench where he can run around tired defense.
2. Hodges - Big back who can attack and now defend.
3. Tonga - Proved last series he's up to it. Test standard centre when injury free.
4. Bell - His time has come. Berrigan although a great gap runner just isn't big enough to defend Gasnier or Cooper, and the QLD selectors should make Berro take the fall.
5. Sing - Can't fault the faultless.
6. Lockeyer - He's a match winner, just not sure if it's at 5/8.
7. Smith - If he's carving them up next season, then there's no reason why he can't be included.

OR, but highly unlikely:
1. Lockeyer
2. Slater
3. Tonga
4. Hodges
5. Sing
6. Thurston
7. Smith
But what are the chances of Lockeyer moving back to fullback?

Thats why I said no shadow of a doubt. Although generally you just have to have had a week's holiday to the Gold Coast to be asked by the selectors if they'd be willing to switch allegiances.

He's only just got to Brisbane.

Its not like he's come through the Brisbane system.

He came through Bartercard Cup, and for the NZ Residents, and NZ A tour to UK.

He's a proud New Zealander. Some are easily swayed, Tame won't be.

and he may not see 1st grade ever again!

Also true.

I think Thierry Henry said it best - we get caught up when we see a big athletic polynesian player and think he's the bee's knees after a couple of games, and then notice nothing ever comes of him simply because he was never really that good and we just got caught up in the "athlete" look.

Tame Tupou could fall into that category.

Two names:

Williams
Bowen

Both were scared sh*tless all night of taking up the kick returns...and their cowardice led to a blues Try!

amen to that!

there was nothing cowardly about the blues defence last night....they absorbed everything that was thrown at them. unlike some of the maroons who were too sh*t scared to tackle the Big Blues ;-)
