100 Years of Queensland v New South Wales function – Brisbane

A gala event will be held at the Brisbane Convention Centre to mark a century of interstate Rugby League between Queensland and New South Wales. A host of Rugby League legends from both states will be in attendance, with a feature of the evening to be the announcement of the Queensland Team of the Century.


I noticed Qld is announcing a team of the century in less than 2 months.

So whats everyone's Qld team of the century?

I'd expect the team to be dominated by the 1920s, early 30s, and 80s.
The only certainies I'd say: 8. Duncan Hall 9. Noel Kelly 10. Arthur Beetson 6 Wally Lewis and 4. Mal Meninga. I'd say Lockyer, Davies, Langer and Thompson as well as Walters on the bench.

I've got only limited knowledge of pre 1980s RL but I'd suggest the only players eligible would be those already selected in the greatest 100 players. I'll have a go at guessing the team:

The 2nd row and wings are difficult picking. Langer vs Thompson will also be interesting to see who they pick.

Wrong !!! Just because a bloke is selected in the NRL/ARL/NSWRL/Sydney team of the century, does not mean he is/should be selected in Qld's side ....

Typical Sydney thought process ....

Why would Beetson be picked for instance ? A youngster in 65 at redcliffe, a passenger in origin 1 in 1980, and a has been at Redcliffe in 1981 !!!! However, one of the best forwards I've seen during his Sydney years.

Noel Kelly might have a problem shrugging Steve Walters.

And yes, I think the half spot will be a toss-up between Thompson, Muir and Langer.

THE Queensland Team of The Century was tonight unveiled at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.


Wally Lewis was named captain of the prestigious team, which was announced in front of more than 1700 people.

Wayne Bennett was named Queensland coach.
