I am moving this weekend to the Clarkson area, thus I will be in the locality of a different Perth based RL team

I believe you guys play out of Joondalup arena is that correct?

I went there a few weeks ago looking at the place, though october means there'd be no posts up obviously

What I saw was....

I saw it at ground level obviously.. where i have marked "1", I'm presuming that's hwer you play. Looking at the photo, does the pitch run east/west ?

Back in the day when I used to play, we would play on the field on the right where the West Perth Falcons [WAFL] play.

I just looked up the Giants web page, it does appear they play on the Falcons oval, its also shared with the RU team... that pitch must get a workout.

Yes the Giants play on the main oval on the right where the stands are. They tend to get a few hundred watching them too, probably as much as the local AFL get.

The Joondalup union team doesn't play at the Arena. We have been playing on the aussie rules oval (on the right in your photo), but when/IF the warring parties can stop squabbling over ONE WORD and the clubhouse setup is finally built, it will be on the left-hand oval (#1 in your photo). We will share that ground with the union team and little athletics (in summer). The netballers have already had their lights installed and working, so they're set. The clubhouse will be built on the eastern hill of that field (between the field and the indoor swimming pool). I'm almost certain the field will run north-south and the clubhouse will run parallel to the eastern touchline.

The line markings you can see in that photo are two soccer fields side-by-side.

Cheers mate.

I'll tend to make watching the giants my weekend recreation as of next year (home games only most likely).

Hope to see you there.

North Beach is a decent place to watch as well Kurt if Giants are away. Nice little clubhouse and generally friendly bunch.

I live in Wembley now (for the next 24 hours anyway), so North Beach are my 'local'.. and 4 years ago I lived within walking distance of South Perth's ground in Manning/Karawarra.

But I tend not to drive when I watch RL (for obvious reasons) so heading all the way from Ocean Keys road, and down Marmion drive to North Beach won't be something I do very often :)

Not much chance of a bus either in Perth! You could always pick me up on the way then I won't have to drive!!

i work in the clarkson area and the amount of housing that is goin up is unbeleivable! u could catch the train to the joondalup trainstation and walk from there it'd only take you 15 mins walk, or u could wait around 4 a bus.....

Yeah, i live around 10-15 mins walk from clarkson railway station, and I plan to catch the train to joondalup station no prob.

My reply was in regards to I'm not likely to make it to North Beach home games when the Giants play away.

Though if there's a number of people to go, such as Perth red, I think car pooling would be a good idea.

Depends on when the Reds games will be. I am presuming they won't play them at the same time as the WARL games but this is RL so who knows?

won't the WARL games be palyed as curtain raisers?

They should do it to boost crowds!

Actually I suggest they will play Reds games just after WARL games.

I was playing RU when the ARS was running around, and they used to schedule the perth Gold games on Sundays, as opposed to the WARU games on saturdays.

The found that RU types didn't attend the Gold games because family commitments would have the blokes only out on one day of the weekend, not both.

I would suggest that'll be similar with RL.

Depends on if they are hoping the bulk of the fans will come from WARL players, families and fans? If so it will be A) hard on the WARL clubs if they lose their fans to the Reds or B) Hard on the Reds if they miss out on half a crowd because they are playing or watching WARL.

The point is playing on a seperate day, they may get none at all.

Many blokes are going to have their missus say "You want to go watch RL today ? You watched it yesterday !!.. when are you going to spend time with your kids?".

As I said, the marketing surveys with the Gold (a similar tier and appeal to the new Reds) showed that many guys have family commitments that won't have them spend two days of the weekend away.

I was browsing through the minutes of the WARL presidents meeting from the other day. It looks like the WARL want to play the WARL games in roughly the same timeslots they have for the past few years (Womens at 12:30pm, Premier-Grade at 1:30pm, and First-Grade at 3pm). The colts comp (U-19's), due to small numbers, they are looking at maybe having a 4-team divisional comp. North (Joondalup & Nth Beach players), South (Willagee & Rockingham), West (Sth Perth & Fremantle), and East (Central & Kalgoorlie). The games would be played as the curtain-raisers to the WA Reds games.

I don't mind this idea. Apparently, union has gained a few numbers from League in the past few seasons in that age group. Reason being that there hasn't been a successful competition for a number of years now in that age bracket. Not all players that age are confident enough to play in the senior grades. Apparently, one or more players who were asked about it said they'd love to play as curtain-raisers for the WA Reds games, so this would be a great incentive.

The WA Reds games would look to be kicking off at about 7:30pm (I would guess on Saturdays).

the under 18/19's/20's comp is slowly gettin worse and worse i suppose if they did the divisional comp style it would give the illusion the numbers are increasing

Some (most?) other JBC teams do this as well - they hold all their club's junior and lower grade matches on the same day as curtain-raisers to the JBC home match. It's the best way of drawing a reasonable crowd at this level of Football.

7.30pm on Saturday would be good. Day out with the family then a few beers at the Brissie watch the game and into Northbridge. Sorted!
