It would be interesting to see what the actual rules of rugby league say. There's probably still something in there that says you get penalised for a voluntary tackle. Mind you, it probably also says you need to put the ball in the middle of a scrum.

Hey Michaeldragon good pickup about Jahrome Hughes. I watched it back a few times he was about a metre or two offside running through inside the kicker for that last ‘ escort’ penalty which beat us. Was going to post about it but thought... the game is lost, the club and Storm and Ref boss must see it too.

This escort thing is another excuse for crap decision. I get it that a player cannons into another by stepping side ways into his path.

But why does a defender 3 metres in front of a chaser have to ‘ stay clear of the chaser’s line of running when he clearly beats the chaser to a spot on the field and basically says that’s mine! Dufty jumped for a great flying catch and it sure looked like Hughes simply ran into Host’s back with a great theatrical fall. Very soft penalty.. milked it and ref ready to oblige.

It was a voluntary tackle, but a Storm player had made contact with Dufty prior to the two who pushed him back into the in goal.

I don’t know the rules word for word, but surely on a commonsense approach, it was the first Storm player to make contact (and from what i see on the footage maintained touching Dufty) that needed to push him into the in goal.

See, this is the problem. Most of us are rusted on league fans and once upon a time the rules were simples.

I mean I think every winger/fb in the nrl dives out of the ingoal just like Dufty did and every single week if they take them back into the ingoal it’s a penatly ?
Also thought it was a sliding dive back into the field of play don’t think really think it’s the explanation of a voluntary tackle ?
If the ball was first forced in the in-goal area it would be a line dropout no matter what. The ball was forced in the field of play, a hand was laid upon him and then he was dragged back in goal.

What I was saying was I didn’t think it was a voluntary tackle because he dove back into the field and play and slide on the ground

When tackled: 2. A player in possession is tackled:

Grounded (a) when he is held by one or more opposing players and the ball or the hand or arm holding the ball comes into contact with the ground.

No moving of tackled player 3. Once a player in possession has been tackled it is illegal for any player to move or try to move him from the point where the tackle is effected.

Voluntary tackle 4. A player in possession shall not deliberately and unnecessarily allow himself to be tackled by voluntarily falling to the ground when not held by an opponent. If a player drops on a loose ball he shall not remain on the ground waiting to be tackled if he has time to regain his feet and continue play.

Sliding tackle 5. If a tackled player, because of his momentum slides along the ground, the tackle is deemed to have been effected where his slide ends. (See Section 6, 3(c).)
Just what I picked up off the nrl site on rules shit ton of rules thought I’d post what I thought was relevant
