Questions about the North Sydney Bears/Northern Eagles

What does it mean when a company is in receivership/administration? I've heard the term used before.

It's supposed to mean a company cannot pay its debts when they fall due - and an "independent" person is appoointed to administer the company on behalf of those lenders who want their money back.

Problem is, Norths were never broke or likely to be - Leagues Club put over $10 million into the club after JV was formed, so the $$$ was always there.

These things do not happen by accident. Rort.

the whole thing went down poorly. from what i remember though the bears were in debt whislt manly werent. subsequently manly always had the licence. JV teams also did not have to satisy the 'criteria' which is why it suited manly.

I also remember the CC ahving a backlash after not too long against the team saying 'we want our own team' and staying away which i think just amde it look like there wasnt enough support for a team up there. added to that singleton kept carrying on about getting rid of the beagles and i remember one game he wanted to buy tickets off everyone who attended so the beagles played in an empty stadium....

whilst it's easy to paint Manly as the reason things went sh*t, a lot of it came from the bears side of things

What particular aspects did Manly not satisfy the criteria, and how come they gotta spend the money the North Sydney Bears Leagues Club were putting into the NEagles?

Soz Rockin Ronny, youve got me a little bit confused here. Please explain. Like, I mean, what do you mean these things don't happen by accident?

Could you also use the recent incident with Steve Menzies to support the "rort claim" (by that, I mean, when Steve Menzies supposedly broke the record for most games played for Manly, when it also included the games he played at the Northern Eagles, even though they are "supposedly" two different teams (or are they?))

I'll play along.

Bears had over 410 million from their Leagues Club plus a great future at Gosford with support from the North Shore plus apromie of a licence. Manly were broke - future looked ugly.

End result: manlt get the NRL licence and Bears are kicked out.

Only a moron would say - gee, what an accident - what bad luck.

The, add the Gold Coast admission over the CC Bears.

Clearly, many at the NRL don't want the Bears around.

The Bears were in deep trouble to the tune of 16mil. The league's club originally wern't prepared to pay 1 cent. An early sticking point for the JV was whether the NRL would pay the 16 mil for the NE to allow them to start fresh. The NRL originally indicated it would and at the death changed its tune. The Bears Leagues club eventually agreed to pay the debts initially pledging 10mil from memory and then 2 mil per yr.
So... the NE got $8mil grant and $10mil from Norths but before they could begin to trade and chase talent and promote the new club etc, they had to pay the Bears original $16mil in debts
Not a good start, then the board were working against each other, Singleton was doing everything he could to kill them. Arko was doing everything in the background to get the Manly club back as a single entity, all of this together and the JV was never a chance!!!!

Which leads me to ask this:

What was your opinion of the Northern Eagles when they first started out in 2000? (I started high school in 2000 at Gosford and I can't believe how big the Northern Eagles were on the C.C. Remember seeing them train once at the park next to the stadium, walking back from a school athletics carnerval). Like, I mean, their first 3 crowds at Gosford were very big (got 19,000+ in each of those 3 games), but then it dropped off? Why did the Northern Eagles change from their original white jersey to the dark maroon one in their 4th ever game vs St George/Illawarra at Gosford I believe?

Also, what happened to all the North Sydney/Central Coast Players at Northern eagles? Why did Jason Taylor, Matt Orford, Mark O'Meley, Paul Stringer etc. go?

Everyone loved them until the wolf started emerging from the sheeps clothing and it became painfully obvious it was Manly running around charading.

our leagues lcub has to be up there with the sh*ttest.
Born from the rugby league club they have done close to f**k all over the year (even if they do currently sponsor u i think). Up to a couple of year ago anyway they were our own worst enemy. They've even removed the bear rug from the entrance apparently, due to it bringing bad luck to gamblers.

And yeah i still cant believe how badly my team got screwed by news limited and its own inpt board

Well the Bears are running juniors there still but Gallop at the News/NRL has stepped in and said the Bears cannot participate in this new under 20s comp..foundation club, still trying to be a part of rugby league and Gallop puts his foot across their throat again.
What is Gallops motivation for killing off the Bears?
They must have done something to offend him when he was a child as he has a real bent against them!

What is Gallops motivation..?

Possibly it is because they aren't in the NRL so the scheduling would be an issue.

I am sure that the Bears will find a way to keep the juniors by playing them in a JBC or PL team.

In terms of progress, he should be renamed "Canter" or "Slow Trot".

I hated them from day one. I can remember a cartoon in 'The Express Advocate' when merger talks first surfaced, depicting the Sea Eagles mascot dressing up in the Bears' mascot outfit. I thought "Oh no- please don't let it happen!" Then when it DID happen and I saw the jersey and saw how much the logo looked like the Manly one, I hated them even more. It was (and is) such a kick in the teeth for the Central Coast. I can still remember the 'Our team- Bears' signs on bus stops and all the excitement in the media about the Central Coast finally getting its' own team the Bears, and then somehow, inexplicably, it all suddenly crashed into the abortion that became the Northern Eagles. A dream turned into a nightmare. It's like taking a Jennifer Hawkins lookalike home for a sexy time and then suddenly when you'te in the middle of doing the deed all her make-up rubs off and it turns out she's a dead ringer for Paris!
