agree 100% that not racist it's true.BTW the old r&b guy's could actually sing and play instruments.LESStar58 said:Old r&b i can dig and by old r&b i mean guys like otis, sam, stevie, marvin, the temptations, the 4 tops etc.
Unfortunately r+b is a term coined by industry types to label people of african-american or islander descent who can sing. it also applies to white girls in little shorts in bling who can sing as well.
If you black and you can sing you are automatically labelled an R&B artist. No racism intended on my behalf but thats just how I see it...

i get told the same thing,f**k em it's a disgrace it's even passed of as music let alone R&B.LESStar58 said:The number of times people have played the "thats racist" card on me is unbeleivable. One of the girls at work like all the new stuff and she calls it R&B and I just say "its not R&B. just because they are black and have some sort of vocal ability doesn't make em R&B. R&B is a legitimate musical term from the 20s-60s/70s that was raped and pillaged by people who sing about how many biatches they've f**ked and how many SUVs they drive!"
"Thats racist Luke"
"If that makes me racist so be it"
I mean, I like "black" music. Old R&B/jazz/blues/soul/reggae when done well is good. But these people who try to reinvent it piss me off. They need to call it something else.... it needs to have it's own genre/label.... urban would be the best way to put it....
Sam Cooke would be turning in his grave if he heard what was being passed off as "R&B" these days....

Out of curiousity can Stevie Ray Vaughn be considered R'n'B? He played rhythm and he played blues.
That's rap, not RnB. Although in saying that, rap is also moving closer to RnB as it's looking for more commercial success.R&B is a legitimate musical term from the 20s-60s/70s that was raped and pillaged by people who sing about how many biatches they've f**ked and how many SUVs they drive!"
