Gidley mentioned during the press conference that they talk about defending errors and penalties during the week but they just never do it. Every time we make a mistake in our half or give away a penalty you can pretty much guarantee the opposition will score.

Injuries definitely aren't helping us though. Probably haven't had our top 17 on the field once this year. Missing Smith, Mullen, even Tyrone, and for most of last night Scott and Rochow hurts our defensive line massively.

The Broncos at Newcastle had 6 rep stars out and still schooled us in how to defend.

I don't accept having players out is an excuse for such defensive lapses every week.

The Coach and his defensive buddies needs to instil a mental attitude throughout the club on being able to turn up for each and every tackle. Too many times players think the job is done in a tackle without helping his mate.

The defensive malaise is throughout the club and even our under 20's are now getting creamed.

Bedsy, probably the best pound for pound defender our club has ever seen is heavily involved in the defencive training of the lads, he was running the forwards through defencive drills in last night's warm up

If a bloke like him can't get through to them then who can?

It's all attitude. There were times last night where our line didn't even move up to meet the Bronco runners and just waited on our line. We need to be pro-active in defense.

The desire and attitude just isn't there no matter how "hard they try".

I wonder often how much of this seasons train wreck would have been avoided if Stone dropped under performing blokes early and shocked some in the team.

It's really only been the last couple of losses where they've said that the performance is unaccepted.

Credit to kurt, he isn't hiding from the reality.

At least they didn't put 70 on us again.

I think Sione did make some terrible reads but our edge defense is in shambles... Are they being coached correctly?

Great players (and the Bedsy is one of the best) does not necessarily translate to great coaches. In fact most of the great coaches were not great players.

There is a lot more to coaching defence than being a good tackler yourself. Gilmeister is a classic example of a great tackler himself but was hopeless as the defensive coach for the Titans until he got sacked.

If Bedsy is the defensive coach, it is an indictment on the Board to have appointed him as he has had no prior coaching experience. It is also unfair on Bedsy.

I was told the greatest of all defensive coaches are the ones who can coach anticipation. They literally coach habit reading into their players. Storm are a classic example. Their technique in the tackle is like Groundhog Day.
