He must get back onside before he can become involved. So either run back behind the last defender or have the player with the ball go past him.

If the defender is any good, it shouldn't be a problem as they know the situation. They should know where the opponent is and once he's back onside - pick him up.

Yeh I know how the rule works and so do the managers who in the majority of cases keep their defences deeper to negate this rule.
Its getting to the stage where the team who gets the least possession is winning the game.
France last night,Italy the night before.
They just sit back and counter and send it up to their forward who is drifting forward and back from on-side to off-side and back.
Paul Wade said the other night that there is no new innovative tactics at the World Cup so far.
I reckon this rule contributes to the deeper defences.
Just grab the quick fwd on the dvd recorder/video and see how much of the game is played between the boxes and where the last line of defence stands.
It annoys me.
I think it actually takes away from attacking football which is the very reason they brought the rule in.
Apparantly you can kick those footballs further too which may also contribute to the defences playing deeper.
Sometimes rules/advancements make the game worse.
My whinge for the day anyway.

Look - Spain are a football nation - but do not support "La Seleccion."
They'll support their club teams, their regions, but would not care what happens with the national side.

It's business as usual, and until their is a coach who won't play political choices and get their tactics to their player selections than it'll be much like the Dutch where the term "Great players does not mean a great team."

Just FWIW here are the 'political' choices -
Raul - Just a shadow of his great self. I guess being a star since 17 takes it's toll.
Cesc - A promising midfielder who looked class in a 2nd rate midfield at Arsenal.
Senna - Not even Spanish.
Pernia - Look above.

The backlash Aragones would've recieved if he didn't play the first two would've been massive.

 you know your stuff.

Can't wait till they improve from being second rate. Might go one better in a Champions League final.

And you must have watched different Spain games in the WC. He was impressive in each game and anyone who isn't biased and did watch them would tell you this.

All a matter of opinion I guess, but rate them or not, there is still half a dozen of them at the world cup (midfielders that is).

Actually that was the salesman coming out in me  Before I get jumped on, there is 4 Arsenal midfielders at the World Cup (Ljungberg, Gilberto, Fabregas and Reyes) plus Rosicky who will join us.

Over all Arsenal have 16 there in total.

Chelsea also have 16 players, Manchester United come third with 13, followed by AC Milan and Juventus (12) and Barcelona (11).
