South Sydney have suffered another injury blow ahead of Thursday night's season opener against Sydney Roosters with prop Tom Burgess ruled out due to a foot problem.
Burgess, who was in contention for a berth on the interchange bench, had his foot in a moon boot at training on Monday and will be sidelined for four to eight weeks.
The English forward joins five-eighth Luke Keary on the Rabbitohs casualty list after the rookie playmaker underwent surgery for a shoulder injury sustained in the recent NRL Nines in Auckland.
Keary will be out for up to five months and his back up Dylan Walker is also battling to be fit for the opening round clash against the 2013 premiers and Souths arch rivals after suffering an ankle injury in the Charity Shield win over St George Illawarra.
Halfbacks Adam Reynolds missed the clash with the Dragons due to a knee problem but the Rabbitohs are hopeful he will be fit to play in Thursday night's clash at ANZ Stadium.
If either Reynolds or Walker are ruled out, captain John Sutton is expected to revert to his familiar five-eighth role after training the off-season at lock.
