yeah it is, but it gives fans "hope" about june 30.
smart fans know deals are done all the time...dodgy carpark deals at mcdonalds etc.
If it was allowed to be legit then every day the papers would be full of "play X signs with club Y"

I don't think it would be. At the moment, there is this concentrated part of the year where this is all you hear about. Realistically, if this was spread out, there wouldn't be as much emphasis on it.

I still feel the end of the year is the best time for it. Once your club has finished, be that after the home and away rounds or week 3 of finals, your players that are off contract should then be able to talk to and sign with other clubs if that is what they wish to do

in a perfect world that would be good stormer, but league is not perfect.
End of the yr and players would be doing deals thru the semis....as hush hush as they try to make it, reporters still get wind of it and will go to press with it.
If a star player was involved in the semis and rumour was rife that he was leaving it would be bad for he and the club. Steve Price last yr did the deal well before the GF and no one cared he was leaving. However, if he did the deal (he never would as he has too much class) in early sept it would have screwed up the dogs chances of winning.

An icon for a failed potential...

Souths have got to find that player that will turn them into a winning side, I don't think Anasta is that player. He'll just be a forgotten player in a stuggling side like Harrison and Fletcher. If they want to throw money around then throw it to Orford, Mason and Bailey and build around them.

Souths have to do something, Even signing a player for a contract more then he is worth,

Parramatta did it in 1996, We gave Freeman alot of money and then the players started rolling in, Souths have to do the same with Anasta.

...and the dollars being mentioned?

I don't see where Souths have come out and mention $$$. This is something that Danny Wielder speculated. This is the same bloke that mentioned strife in the Cowboys camp. He mentioned about racism with Graham Murray and Matty Bowen. He was saying how Bowen was going to leave.

Read between the lines you useless hack.

Bit hard to do when there was only 1 line!

Signing Anasta would benefit them both. Anasta playing alongside Ashley Harrison, Fletcher, Hegarty, Sutton, Mad Dog and Pup and Mini Jnr would be the nucleus of a very good side.

Souths at times lack direction. Anasta would give them that. The rest would take care of itself.

He has been playing some great football but is he really worth all the hype?

correct , played well this year but no way is he worth 3.5m over 5 years , he would then be by far the NRLs highest paid player.

That's just Wielder being an idiot.

There is no way he'll get more than 500K.

This is the problem with Souths, they want to try and buy supposed miracle players. Anasta isn't going to fix Souths problems and he's not going to draw a great amount of top players to join him at that club in the sinking sand.

They need to focus on not buying one off guys that are going to eat up a third of your salary cap but some solid first grade players that can slowly turn this team around, getting Michael Monaghan would be a good start. Get a good pack together and shore up the defence, the Sharks and Sea Eagles have managed to go from strugglers to top of the table by making a couple of smart purchases and eliminating the holes in their defensive lines.

They should be aiming to get the side to the point where they can be aiming at about 9th or 10th on the ladder and slowly build from that platform in the following years. Rome wasn't built in a day Souths.

Well now that Michael Monaghan is gonna be Released you would think Souths would sign him.

Souths have no halfback at all, Walker isn't a halfback, Williams is a flop, Where too next? a 6 & 7 of Sutton and Monaghan would be awesome.

They should also chase Chad Randall, Shane Walker isnt getting any younger.

Agree with Monaghan, but we don't need Randall. Trent Young is going to be a star.
