Time to go old fella...senility is catching up with you.

Every time I listen to him, he just get it wrong wrong wrong, forgetting players names, calling the wrong player...he just called Brett finch 'Robert Finch' on MMM...the last two weeks he's forgotten that the team hes watching is St george-Illawarra, saying last week they'd won 15 premierships, and last night stating craig young was (C) of their last comp winning team. 15 comps in 11 seasons = great trick that.
Alzheimers perhaps.

He is referring to the Dragons overall history. Given Illawarra didn't win any and the JV hasn't won any, it is the closest thing they have.

He was right about Craig Young though. Last player to captain the Dragons to premiership success...that is a fact.

He's talking about that history whilst talking about the team on the field, who did saints Illa beat in 79?

 so it's not really a stab at Rabs, it's a go at the Illasox.

That history doesn't just vanish though, St George are no longer a single entity but they are still there, did he actually say Craig Young is the last guy to captain St George Illawarra to a premiership or the last guy to captain a Dragons side or St George side.

If it was either of the last two then the statement is correct. And regardless of the side now that still holds merit when one half of the team IS the team he is talking about.

I love it when fans of other clubs call us St Merge or say we haven't won any premierships. In the end, all that matters is how the Dragons fans feel. Personally, I haven't missed a beat. I was going to Kogarah Jubilee Oval in nappies watching all 3 grades. I was on the hill at the SCG in 75 in tears. Fortunately I'm old enough to have enjoyed 77 and 79. My pain and my joy wasn't halved when we merged. I still bleed red and white and if we play bad it ruins my weekend.
I'm proud of our joint venture. We've always had great players from the Illawarra. We are still the dragons and we play in the big red V. We have brought Illawarra into our family and I'm glad we did. Taking on Illawarra as a partner doesn't change the past. We follow our colours and our region......it's just now our region is a lot bigger. It may get bigger again when the Sharks fold

Im aware the history doesnt vanish, being a supporter of a JV team myself, it just comes across to me whenever he talks of Saints Illa, he forget just who they really are.

When a commentator states that a team thats been in existence for 11 years has won fiftenn comps, that to me says its time to go - he cant even get Brett finchs name right yet its been in every news broadcast and newspaper all week.

The difference between your JV's though is that STGI retained much more of their traditions (St George did anyway) than either side of WT ever did. They still wear the same jersey 20/26 games every year (sometimes more) as their predecessors did.

Which is because the St George JV was a take over as opposed to an even joint venture that the Wests Tigers are

Exactly. Steelers fans probably have a right to feel upset about the way things have gone but I suppose there'd be an equal case that Saints could put forward.

another merger scum living in Denial. The shire is off bounds no matter what, oh yeah and your juniours can still play over here, seeing as its own comp has just about vanished.
Back on Rabs, I gotta agree this has to be hes last year. He called the wrong players names about 5 times with Sharks v merger scum.

Illawarra still have a big say, considering the Wollongong junior base is huge. Maybe not in the front line, but behind the scenes for sure.

And the Tigers are more of a 50-50 merger. Tigers were almost forced to take on a new image because two foundation clubs histories would have surely clashed otherwise. I still think back the the 1989 epic and still see the current Tigers in that team. It would be good for the old tough fibro image of the Magpies to be a little more influential though.

Good post. Completely agree. It's completely fair to say the Dragons have won 15 premierships.

If the Broncos were to merge with someone I definitely would still feel we had won 6 premierships. So would everyone else with their club.

The only people talking about Saints as a new team are a couple of hard headed tools at the NRL and a few bitter opposition supporters. Wests Tigers made that announcement. Saints never did. It's always been discussed as a reclamation of territory.

Wests Tigers have been in existence for 10 years and have won 16 competitions.

Hmmm....

No wonder Tim Sheens keeps his job.
