Will be interesting when they offload it back to the fans for a $1..... Pretty funny too!

Anything less then a top six finish will see the bunnies calling for their privateers heads.

From a team that was training out of a shipping container a few short years ago. Has Wests taken over the club yet?

Sorry, I may be mistaken, but aren't the Mighty Rabbitoh's one of the only clubs who do not rely on pokies as a major source of income?

(In Sydney, that is.)

Won't all the 50 000 who marched for souths during the 'lets get south back into the comp march ' buy a membership ?

After all they all pack out every souths home game, oh wait....

Who said the 50,000 can all afford to get ticketed membership? Just because you love a team doesn't mean you can fork out 200 - 300 bucks a year on a membership.

I myself would love to be able to get even just an out of towners for the Dragons, and even though it is only 70 odd dollars, after child support, 12 months rego, rent and numerous bills, it is a bit of a stretch.

My original post was basically just to show that this tonearm wanker was just pidgeonholing fans based on a geographical location. I mean sure, I know as well as the next person that all Sharks fans have 2 heads, and all Cowboys fans are 'Rumpigs' and 'Bundy Bitches', but really, he's done it a few times to other team fans and it's pretty f**ken average.

If you were actually at that march, you'd know that a fair percentage of those who marched were not Souths fans. There was a very high representation of fans from other clubs, all who marched in solidarity and their clubs jerseys to protest what they thought was an injustice.

I'll be the first to admit that although our crowd figures are amongst the best of the Sydney clubs, I'm still pretty dissappointed in the numbers we get. Tell me one fan of a Sydney club who isn't dissappointed in their clubs crowd figures though? Patronage for Rugby League games in Sydney is sh!thouse. This could have something to do with Sydney fans being fickle or it could have something to do with the fact that the media organisation that owns our game has turned it into something best watched on tv.

I still maintain that what Crowe said yesterday is not a negative statement, but rather a positive. He wants our club to be self sufficient and not reliant on handouts from anyone. So do I. He wants our club to have double the amount of members it currently has. So do I. As an owner, how do you acheive objectives like this? You invest and you work and you market and sometimes, you even release a video where you point out certain realities to stakeholders.

So what did he say that could be taken to be a negative? The only statement that he made was that he would not be the clubs cash cow forever. Well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that this was always going to be the case. Max Delmege did something similar with Manly this year. He has built them up to the point where they are the best team in the comp and now he is reducing his involvement, while his team is capitalising on the spoils of success. Rusty is working hard to follow the Manly model.

I'm worried, if these private owners pull out, were dead.

Oh? Usually you're so high and mighty about Souths finances and safety compared to other Sydney teams who you're constantly deathriding.

But really, this is pretty obvious. Obviously Phonechucker wants the club to run without handouts, as all Sydney clubs should be doing.

I know this must be hard for you to understand, but Rusty is in it for the long haul... all he said was that he wants the club to run just like any other business and be self sufficient and not keep relying on handouts.

What sort of time-frame do you think long is...

We need another 9000 members,I am sure there is another 20,000 or more souths fans out there....People shouldnt become members because we are winning....If fans do that, are they true souths fans?.We should be members win or lose,Membership is the cost of one family day at the footy.:)

I think what Rusty has said is obvious enough , but does he have to grandstand about it ?

There are a number of private people who have poured millions in to League and the clubs that they support without having to constantly remind us of their own self importance.

He wasn't grand standing. His video was released via email to members only. It's the media outlets of this country that have taken it and blown it out of all proportion.

An email to members, about trying to get memberships.
Genius marketing. Try and sell the product, only to those who have already purchased it. :sarcasm:

I think the grandstanding has more to do with the way he presented it, instead of what was said. Such as "[don't worry our generous sponsors and myself have got it covered this time]", or his bragging about the hotel room he was in has been paid for by someone other than himself, etc etc.

The guy is a tool in every possible way, looking for attention. He bailed the club out big time, but those very foundations he laid, get rockier every few months. Souths need to perform next year, or he will probably bail. Progress.

Rusty is great for Souths, he is def here for the long haul. But what he is saying is correct, clubs need to be able to support themselves instead of relying rich backers.

If i were the Roosters i would be the worried ones, considering Ford Aust are going bankrupt and there lil owner is Mr Sydney City Ford himself....
He is struggling to sell cars..
