Raiders V Titans: Unchanged Lineup

Raiders unchanged for Titans

Tuesday, June 30, 2009
The CFMEU Canberra Raiders have named an unchanged line-up, for Sunday’s important clash against the Gold Coast Titans at Canberra Stadium.
The Green Machine posted their best win of the season on Sunday as they downed competition heavyweight the Melbourne Storm by 26-16 at Canberra Stadium and will be looking to back up the effort with a win against another top side in the Titans.
Raiders Coach David Furner said he thought his forward pack laid a solid foundation against the Storm and hoped their form would continue this weekend.
“I think our forwards have been a real strength for us all year and I thought the way they started against the Storm got us on the front foot early,” Furner said. “I’m hoping this continues again on Sunday and we can get off to a strong start against the Titans as well.”
Raider’s fullback Josh Dugan made a sensational return to the NRL side Sunday and was a star performer in the team’s big win, while Joel Monaghan also silenced his critics with a stunning two try performance.
Furner said the Raiders would concentrate on maintaining their form from last weekend and try and shut down the Titans in a similar fashion to what they did against Melbourne.
“The Titans have some good individual players and we will have to be careful of what they can provide,” he said. “I think their forwards have been strong this season too so it’s shaping up to be a good contest up front.”

No surprises here. Would love to see Joel Thompson or Waddell (or both) on the bench though.

Wellllllllll...........Would have really liked to have seen Flanagan on that bench. Tongue will be spending about 30 minutes at hooker if form is true, and that's 30 minutes where we will lack spark.

You wouldnt expect to see changes , you would be filthy if you were dropped after the weekends performance.
Play like that again and the Titans wont get close , they dont like playing at canberra , they have a few injuries , they are due a loss as well.
We need to build on from last week.

J.Thompson must be close to getting picked, so any slip ups in form then he may get his chance.
There's a chance Shillo , TLL ( certainity for mine ) Monas and Campo will be missing in a few weeks when SOO teams are chosen.

The main reason we want Tongue out there is he is better in defence than Buttriss. Basically the entire game plan Furner is going with is bash the crap out of the other team until they don't feel like winning anymore then put points on them.

To be fair it's actually been working well except when we take the preasure off by dropping the ball etc. I don't think it's any real shock that last week we held on to the damn ball and won... In fact I think every win this year has been due to good handling and not giving away penalties on the sixth tackle.

We are missing the spark out of dummy half, Flanagan or Waddell need to come onto that bench. Plum might be going well but our forwards can play lots of minutes so we don't need 4 forwards.

Waddell is our best hooker..

I have Buttriss ahead of Waddell atm, Butt hasn't been as good of late but at times last year he showed how good he can be out of dummy half. He deserves a few more weeks at least b4 we think about replacing him.

nobody is talking of replacing buttriss. He is one of the most important players at the club; the team basically only scores points when he is on the field.

Have we really seen enough of Flanagan to make such a call. I would consider both him and Joel Thompson in my top 17.

I was basing it soley on his first grade appearances, where he was terrible.

I have no idea how he is performing for SL. If anyone does know that would be great.

thanks for that raidersrawesome

Joel Thompson and Fensom each grabbed hat-tricks in that game.

Although it was against one of the bottom teams and it's a comp where brett kelly is seen as the inglis equivalent.

Aaron Cannings is in extreme doubt for this match.

This is a huge opportunity for the raiders forward pack to standup and steamroll the opposition.

Cannings, Rogers have been ruled out. The Titans forward pack is seriously understrength and we should run over them.

I'm sorta worried to be honest... We killed them last year in the same game... We are favourites... We just seam to not rise to the occasion as well when we are expected to win it... This year has been fairly similar to others in that regards... We lose the ones we are expected to win, beat the teams we are expected to be flogged by... The only difference is we haven't been going as well beating teams we are expected to lose to... It's generally an annoying 6 or less loss too.

Here is to hoping the boys have their heads on straight and come in with the same dedication as last week... I think we would give any team issues if we just handle the ball and the ruck as well as we did against the Storm...

I’ve seen enough of Flanagan this season. His work at dummy half is disgraceful. Buttriss is our best option at No.9. I like Waddell. He should be in the QLD Cup getting ready for the step up to First Grade
