The CFMEU Canberra Raiders will be bolstered this weekend ahead of their round eight clash against New Zealand, with both Captain Alan Tongue and hooker Lincoln Withers named to take on the Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Both Tongue (quad) and Withers (eye) were late withdrawals in their round six loss to the Melbourne Storm at Canberra Stadium, but after the week off due to the bye, both are expected to take their places on Sunday.

Outside back Brett Kelly also makes his return to the top grade for Sunday’s match, after successfully recovering from a knee injury and after two weeks in the Queensland Cup for Souths Logan.

Kelly said he’s looking forward to the challenge of returning to first grade, and has fond memories of playing the Warriors.

“I haven’t played first grade since the last game of last year after an injury in the last trial, and after two weeks in the Queensland Cup I’m ready to go again this week,” Kelly said. “Last time I played the Warriors I scored a hat trick so hopefully I’ll be able to do that again.”

Raiders Coach Neil Henry said the return of Withers and Tongue would be a big boost for the side and he was confident they would be ready by Sunday.

“We’ll have a look at Lincoln and Alan today. They’re both training this afternoon and indications are Lincoln’s eye has cleared up despite a bit of blurred vision there, and Tonguey tested his leg out last week and ran at about 80 per cent so hopefully by Sunday he’ll be right,” Henry said.

Henry said the inclusion of Todd Carney and Joel Monaghan in Friday night’s country origin team may have a bearing on the final make-up of the side to play the Warriors, and they would link up with the team on Saturday if they come through the match injury free.

“Our Toyota Cup side travels across on Saturday morning so they (Carney and Monaghan) will fly out Saturday morning and we’ll take 17 players across Friday and if they are right we’ll have 19 there,” Henry said.

We're going to get hosed.

Carney and Monaghan will be knackered and how Brett Kelly got a run....yech.

I'm about 1% as confident going into this as I was for the Melbourne game.

got the same feelings here.

It's almost worth giving carney, monaghan, tongue and withers the game off to be more prepared for next week.

Gee you lot are about as pessimistic as us this year!

On the Warriors front I'm sure you won't be too sad to hear that Ruben Wiki won't be running out against his old club, he's copped an injury and is out, although given his recent form you have to wonder if thats our management giving him a dignified way out. We'll basically be fielding the only fit 17 players left in our squad, we've got so many injuries right now, which means that Russel Packer, the form prop of the U21 comp will debut in the front row.

You clearly haven't seen our injury list. I think our 3/4 line are our only fit backs, we're missing most of our backrowers and our only genuine offensive weapons will be stuffed after City-Country.

Thats tough going, believe me I feel for you right now. May the least crippled team win!

Agree , Dobbo played well last start and deserves to get another crack , he gives us a few options when playing , I dont think campo can do that , he plays a running game , similar to TC , so I think Campo should be the lock , Dobbo to start at 7

Despite what the Warriors fans would have you believe, we couldn't have got them at a worse possible time - coming off two fairly convincing road losses in a row, they'll fire up at home to get their season back on track for sure.

Having said that I still am hoping for a win obviously.

DWTA. No matter what their mindet is, playing the Warriors minus Price, Mickinnon, Ropati etc etc, will always be a massive advantage.
