Rain to play a part in 5th test.

Here is a weather forecast for the 5th test.

Met Office forecasters are saying today that five days of very changeable weather are on the cards for the final Ashes test match at the Oval.

The weather often causes a headache for forecasters as well as cricketers, and bad light, as well as rain, are almost certain to affect play at various stages, helping generate a real nail-biter. The forecast for the match looks very mixed.

Forecast for the final test match at the Oval
Thursday
After a reasonable start, looks like clouding over with the chance of rain later in the day.
Friday
With a band of rain to the north-west and another to the south-east, the Oval may be affected by thick cloud cover through the day, and rain could affect the ground at any time.
Saturday
At present, looks the worst day, with thick cloud cover and outbreaks of rain. There's a high chance that this rain could be heavy and fairly persistent.
Sunday
Looks like an improving day, with early rain clearing and sunny spells developing.
Monday
In the balance, with doubts about the overall weather pattern. Best estimates are that it will be a reasonable day with a few showers possible.
All in all, a very tricky one to call through the whole match. Perhaps England are hoping for rain, but spectators will want to see more than an empty cricket pitch with the covers on.

Looks like this one may be a draw. Australia can't get a slice of luck this series

doesn't look too bad

we normally only need 4 days to win a test match

LOL, exactly.

Australia just couldnt get a slice of look in that test, could they? I mean without the rain Australia would have been chasing 550 odd with nearly two days play...lucky, lucky England.

The weather could quite easily clear up. You just never know in England. But if around a day is lost to rain id put my money on a draw, especially with England's strengthened batting line-up (provided they pick Collingwood).

Given another day McGrath and Lee might have got those runs.

In all seriousness we have been unlucky with McGrath being hurt but outside of that we have been comprehensively outplayed for 3 of 4 tests by England and are lucky to still be in a position to have a crack at retaining the Ashes.

Even more reason why Australia have to pick 5 bowlers. They are going to need wickets quickly.

As long as those 5 bowlers don't contain the name Kaspa and Dizzy.

No, the selectors will know better than that.

Should be Tait, Mcgrath, Lee, Warne and Macgill/Watson depending on the pitch.

I'd be very tempted to use Stuart Clark ahead of McGill/Watson.

That is a big punt. Our batters haven't looked like scoring many runs. Now is when we need a all rounder.

I think the batters will play better with less batters in the side.

It places extra responsibility on them to perform. So far this series the aussies have not valued their wickets and have got out playing poor shots.

This will place more pressure on them and make them value their wickets more and should lead to a few big partnerships

The forecast is set for glorious weather on the first day, followed by probable interruptions for Friday and the weekend. In a summer when the Gods have undoubtedly been smiling on England, a midmatch downpour would be the surest sign that providence has played its part in the team's remarkable renaissance. But it would be an unworthy conclusion to the most exhilarating Test series for decades. A result, one way or another, is what this contest deserves.

Usually these weather predictors have been getting it wrong for the cricket so lets hope it is the same again.
