Just off topic has anyone seen the Samoan team named for their tour of the UK

Frank Pritchard has been named

If Kearney goes on loyalty then Pritchard should be in the team, goes great in the black jerset

My opinion is that you pledge loyalty to a Country, and stick to it, regardless of who it is. If a player is a resident of another country, playing for a Club- I don't have an issue with them playing for that country if they feel an allegience to it, and haven't represented another country before. Otherwise it all gets a bit mercenary IMO.
Irene in the netball team is a special case IMO, as she wished to become a kiwi for a lifestyle choice for her and her family. As for Fein, and Webb- I have always felt a little uneasy about that.
Big big ups to young Foran- whose desire to be a kiwi made him turn down a chance at origin. THAT is a loyal player, and a passion I respect.
If Rangi wishes to play for England simply because he struggles to get into the Kiwis, his choice, it's within the rules. Does he feel English in his bones & soul, that's what I'd like to know.

I agree with this. Kearney appears to have gone on loyalty - Fien having served the Kiwis well during his time, and also Leuluai (I don't know how his form is in the UK, admittedly).

It needs to be accepted that the UK is not seen as a viable option as far as picking players for the Kiwis. As long as it is viewed as a retirement home for NRL players, and ones who couldn't quite make it, it never will be. Whether that is right or wrong, I don't know. I don't watch Super League.

The rest of the Kiwis are back here playing in the best competition in the world against the best players in the world (including the Kangaroos, their main opposition). It's a much easier gauge for Kearney.

Well im not accepting that second point and THAT IS MY WHOLE POINT.
The NZRL/Selectors need to man up and have ability make their own call on who they think has the ability and suitable to play in the black jersey - HAND THE JOB over to somebody else.

Rangi Chase has won two big awards this year = bascially being voted as best player in the comp.
Further to that and more importnatly if you have watched him he has been class .. . he can create something out of nothing.
If they had watched Fien playing lately - he has been average and how old is he? Flick him , , Leulauai+Chase & Luke could have covered hooker.

He has done everything can to get selected (considered moving to a bigger side in Leeds to get recognised) but stuck with castleford and battled away including man of the match in the origin match.

His side is average . . . so its not like he is behind a dominant pack.

it is not JUST imo.
Rangi could have been a truly great story for NZ League.
But there is NOBODY in the MEDIA who evens questions this.
Shows ur the Gap in balanced coverage of Rugby League media.

Course he doesnt - he already has stated his desire to play for the Kiwis.
Perhaps the Kiwis / NZRL told him he wont get selected either on his talent or
. He has committed longterm to the tigers/esl.

or even worse they havent event talked to him all.
His team gets kicked out and there is no mention of him in the train-on squad and no contact.

Hopefully if it wasnt the last - if so it would be extremely amateur.
probably was the case.

I wouldn't get too vitriolic towards an outfit that has overseen a World Cup and Four Nations victory, along with success at many other levels of the game. Amateur isn't a word that associates.

Look, I am not disputing Chase is a great player. There is a lot of talent in the ESL and for him to be judged as one of its best, that's a top achievement. But players have got to accept that a move to the UK is a death warrant as far as Kiwis selection is concerned. The only players that get picked over there have already proven themselves at Test level. The selectors have it easy in picking NRL players - they already know how they are going to go against Kangaroos talent. And that's who we're playing. Would Rangi Chase excel against Australia? I'm not sure. Would Foran and Benji? Yes. Would Johnson? Based on the last three weeks, yes..although he's probably going for experience alone. We have hooking options. I know you're a fan, but there's no bonafide spot for him.

I don't go along with you that Rangi Chase could be a truly great story for NZ. He'd never play any big games. Foran and Benji is our halves combination as long as they want to be.

Congrats to him, by the way, on winning the Man of Steel. That is an outstanding achievement for a guy in a very average side.

If he's stated his desire to play for the Kiwis...then it's obviously not the best move to make himself available for the English. That is cutting off his nose to spite his face. His choice, but pretty stupid IMO.
His best option is to let the powers that be know he'd shit glasshouses for the team, stress that often, then have form on field that simply can't be ignored. But if you are in the UK it would be a bit harder to make the Kiwis than in the constant eyes of the coach in the NRL. Not to mention how difficult those Clubs have made it in the past for internationals.
If this is one finger up at the Kiwi hieracy for not picking him...well his business, he's not breaking any laws. But he has blown his chances of making the Kiwis if that's what his goal was.

Yeah, agree. He's got some goods for sure, but when you have Marshall & Foran in the halves-that's some big boots to unseat. And Johnson is a talent of the future, probably not quite there yet but making great strides and learning at an astounding speed.

If Kiwis management have told him he's not in their plans, fair play to him. He wants to play international league and that's his call.

I'd like to hear more about..but why would our media chase it? It's World Cup rugby mad at the moment, Four Nations isn't a big thing, and neither is Rangi Chase.

Shit, the Dannevirke boy playing for the Poms.

I don't know what to make of that. A bit like Fa'asavalu a few years back it just seems weird. Has he made it on residency or does he have an English grandparent?

the 4 year rule I believe.

My only issue is where players swap countries like trading cards. If Chase sticks to playing for the English, then thats fine by me.

Got no problem in Pritchard going to play for Samoa at the end of his international career. But wouldn't want people going the other way - starting out with Samoa and deciding they've got good enough to earn a Kiwis jersey.
