it might be a case of Ale struggling for motivation whilst Matt Elliott was coaching, and to be honest, the lack of faith elliott showed in him, when he was playing well, who could blame him

a small, 1 year contract and a quick phone call from Henry saying if he worked hard and recaptured his form of 03-04, he has a future in this team, might just do the trick, and if not, what have we lost?

Haha 69 makes it sound like we have the most talented roster in the NRL with his continued 'Elliott didn't know how to get it out of him' pleas.

Take off your anti-Elliott goggles for just a minute.

Every player on the roster has known from the time that Elliott was signed at Penrith that they were going to have to impress the incoming coach. Ale's had the better part of a season to show what he's capable of, and hasn't delivered.

Cut him loose I'd say. And from what I can tell, there's 16 clubs that agree with me.

Maybe the club views him as having a detrimental effect on other players.
I'd like the club to hold onto him as I had such high hopes but there is obviously more to it if no clubs are making him an offer.

if you will notice jed, i bolded the "might be" to avoid this exact thing, im just offering an idea for what could of happened. For all i know pixies came late one night and stole his talent, maybe his priorities have changed. But i stand by my call, i dont think we have much to lose by giving him one more year to see what happens, i mean lets face it, its been 2 extremely promising years, and 1 very ordinary one. Cant hurt to give him one more

and ed, i make it sound like we have one of the most talented rosters in the comp, because IMO, we do. Its a matter of getting them to the next step.

Very true, can't argue with this part

I don't think our roster is hugely talented at this point in time. It is more a case of potential in my books, they are achieved to their potential in 2006 IMO. However around the 2008-2009 period these guys will be coming into their primes, thats when I expect to see us making a legitimate leap up the ladder.

your spliting hairs ed
we are a team with a huge amount of potential, but not a talented team?

i would suggest to have potential, you first need talent
hence we have a very talented roster. What we have is a group of very talented youngsters that need to be brought to NRL standard and have their talents flurish. If they can make the step up and fullfil potential, we are looking at a Raiders Dynasty. Several premierships and the rest. That much im positive on.

You could throw the junior kangaroos into the NRL, they'd be very talented but would struggle to avoid the spoon.....

Steve Irwin will also be in the reckoning and Purtell still is and will always be rubbish. He is slow and gets dominated in tackles. I'd hate to see him and Kahler playing next to each other. They need a dominatrix to get them fired up and Tilse isn't far behind.

Exactly my opinion Purtell is unable to make a line break without a great assist, with Goodwin and Zilly we must be able to relagate him to firsts...Frawley kicks his ass IMO I would run

1.Goodwin
2.Howell
3.Graham
4.Frawley
5.Best

But i think form will tell, during the season the back 5 are easy to pick we just need to see who's the goods next year...one thing for sure i wanna see Zilly somewhere in the run on side.

Maybe so, but they'd still be talented, which is what im saying with regards to you claiming we dont have a talented roster

and for the record, based on the junior roos team named so far, i recon they could hold their own

Yeah, it would be interesting to know what the go is with Ale. For a guy that has quite literally enough talent to win you a game single handedly with a moment or two of brilliance, he's just gone right off the boil in the last 12 months.

Sometimes watching him and Frawls in PL it's like a competition as to who appears to care the least about what's going on out there.

I don't know...I'd hate to see him go (especially with our lack of depth in the three-quarters), but if there's some other issue there, then fair enough I guess.
