Putting aside the fact that carrying a specialist centre on the bench is geniused, Beale is one of our top 5 backs.

Make a f**king decision.

He has made a decision - just not one that's suits the rhetoric on here.

Beale is hardly a "specialist centre" , he spent most of his time at Brissy playing Fullback or Wing & has played 4 test matches on the wing. He only became a regular centre in 2014 & finished that season at FB.

Haven't been a huge Leutele fan but his form has been quite good this year.

Wouldn't really be fair dropping him atm but I don't think Beale on the bench thing is going to last long.

Bird to lock makes lots of sense but he doesn't want to play as a forward.

Drop Feki for Beale then or drop Beale all together. Carrying a centre/winger/fullback on the bench is a waste.

In any event he's a specialist back.

What purpose is served by carrying a back on the bench for 70minutes a game where forwards are already required to play longer minutes than ever due to the reduced interchange?

If he gets injured, do you think his spot should be taken by another specialist back?

I emailed Flanno today and actually asked him the two questions everyone's been asking. Firstly why is Beale taking up a bench spot and what has happened to JSL?

Refreshingly and something that may surprise you all, he responded within a few hours with his answers.

He told me that Beale is a quality player and when fit is probably our best centre. He picked up a hamstring injury in the Nines (something I think we all knew about) and carried that into the trial against the Tigers. It was decided for Round 1 that in the heat up in NQ he was a little underdone and they decided not to risk him.
He's been given some game time since and while it's not the ideal option the coaching staff have decided the bench is the best option and they are confident the 3 forward bench can do the job.
Flanno said Beale will get his chance sooner rather than later but in the meantime Ricky has done nothing to warrant getting dropped.

He also said this sort of competition is good for the side with players having to fight for their positions.

In regards to JSL he is working hard on some areas of his game that the coaching staff feel he needs to work on. He then added it would be hard at this point to put JSL ahead of the Fifita boys, Taga, Prior, Gal or Heigno. Had to agree with him there.

I thought it was very decent of him to reply, he really didn't need to but all credit to him.

The 4th interchange player is likely to be on the bench for 70 mins whether he's a back or forward - unless there is a concussion test replacement or a free 'on report' substitution.
Wests in RD 1 and Canterbury & Easts in RD 2 only used 16 players (one of those 16 Easts players only played 4 mins) - unless there's an injury , the 4th interchange is going to get very little time in a lot of games , under the new interchange rules.
I'm not saying it's right or wrong , just that there is going to have to be some experiments on the make-up of the bench , to work out how to get best use out of the new system.

I'm going to ask him about tiling a splash back in my kitchen.

Well I'm going to email him a complaint. When the activity of Splashing liquid around in my house was undertaken during a party that involves frequent & copious amounts of splashing, Flanno's easy, 5-Step How to tile a Splash Back manual I purchased for $3.95 (inc GST) did not repel said "liquid".

Shame on you Shane!

Should do them by 20. They are very ordinary. No forwards, backs out of form, Dylan Walker isn't a 5/8.

So we will probably lose now.

I said almost the thing about the Steelers, perhaps I should anticipate a win for a change.

Manly 0-3 for me.

Well sort of. Since November last year I've dropped 25 kilos so I'm a little thinner than before! I am 6 foot five in the old scale and now around 110kg, so still pretty big compared to most blokes.

Ok next time I'm at shark park I'm standing with you in case any real merkins start anything!
