I think some focus to much on attack when rating a player especially with our forwards on why they should/should not be picked!

I suspect Ryles has a greater focus on defence with our forwards!

Look at Hopgood yes his attack isn't like it was 2022, it has dropped off a bit ( but not terrible either). However his defence is still great.

He played 48 mins for 35 tackles for 0 misses.

Compare that to Moretti who no one criticises and plenty talk up, because his attack is great. He played 35 mins last night for 20 tackles and 4 misses. Pretty poor!

So what's better for the side Hopgood's defence? Or Moretti's attack?

Pretty clear not many look at defence when rating our players. Plenty of posts about Hopgood but nothing about Moretti's below average defence!

Defence is what wins you matches but errors are what also loses you matches.

Looking at stats mean absolutely sweet f**k all by the way.

When did Dylan Walker become such a smart footballer?

Never seen it, always skilled, but never noticed how good his pass selection is in particular.
I watched his pre match press conference the other day.

Honestly I have no idea where the Dylan Walker who was a f**kwit at Souths and Manly has gone.

The recruitment team deserve a bake but the signing of Walker was a great get.

His probably the best 14 in the comp with the role he plays.

If the Knights sack AOB isn't he getting a 2 million dollar payout?

Only the Knights would sign a dud coach and allow that I to the contract

How much are both on??? Hopgood has played origin while Morreti had his first start last night.

Another apples to oranges comparison, you blokes love them.

Luca is probably on over less than half of Hopgood's money and his output has been far superior. Up until last night Hopgood was averaging about 67m a game for your starting lock. That's Jake Cheeseburger numbers without the elite defence or ball playing. Then add in all the mistakes and penalities.

And ffs, I’d be willing to give someone the benefit of the doubt, but the second you pipe up and start defending them I realise they’re a lost cause.
Yes it was a small sample, and not necessarily indicative of the player’s typical or expected performance (which is the point of sample sizes). But in the context of this one game (for those critics who don’t care about sample size), his performance certainly wasn’t worth shitcanning him.

Hoppy loves tackling

It now explains all those simple handling errors he has every week.

Just wants to tackle

There’s a lot to like right now. The team reaches another level when Moses and Lomax are on the field. And with JAC in the mix, I’d go as far as saying we have the best wingers in the comp.

Moretti has been really solid, and at least in attack, we look like a better side when Walker replaces Hopgood — who still seems to be stuck at three-quarter pace. Is he carrying an injury, or is Ryles’ high-tempo style just not clicking with him?

The less said about Penisini, the better. At least Russell knows his limits, plays within himself, and is twice the defender in the centres.

I get Will made few errors, but he was solid defensively. And his attack was elite level for a centre. Thought it was awesome.

14 runs 182 m, 59 PC, 9 TB, 2 TA, 2 LBA, 1 LB. Defence 1 miss.

He aren't getting dropped any time soon with that attack.

Nah, sorry mate.
You can make all the metres in the world but if you drop the ball 4 times, run too close to the sideline and get taken out and blow golden opportunities with your inability to pass, then you’re a liability to the team.

That was one of the worst games I’ve seen an Eel play, and it’s not an isolated incident. He has shown massive defensive issues for the last couple of years and is consistently guilty of handling errors.

We all know that Penisini can run the ball well. In fact he does it very well. But when you have difficulty doing anything else then you’re not a FG player.

I’m happy with the win but I’m convinced the Knights fixed that match with how awful they were. I haven’t seen a team play that poorly in a while. If we were a better team we could have racked up way more than 28 points. Also what the hell happened to Penisini and Hopgoods hands? It’s gettig extremely frustrating to watch them drop the ball every 5 seconds.

Penisini has just continued his inability to catch from 2024. This is nothing new. He like Penis Terepo before him simply can’t hold the ball. Both ducks for hands. Must be something in the name.

No miss tackles, looked to have worked hard in defence. He did fine.

Not sure what you expect from a rookie prop with limited minutes in their first game.
Like I said hope I'm wrong but he was built up to be this beast. Without being in a position to see him in reserves, pictured him to be Tuavati like (wishful thinking). Didn't blow my mind. But yes only a rookie.
