but we have a top 3 differential
This year we do (so far anyway - I expect it to drop by the end of the season). But if we do finish with a top four points differential it'll be the first since 2007:

It’s bizarre to me that you could say finishing top 4 for the Eels is overachieving yet the Panthers losing 3 games in one and a half seasons isn’t.
I haven't said anything about the Panthers. Though their +605 points differential in one and a half seasons certainly points to them having a great squad. I don't think they're overachieving.

Well we wont be favourites when playing Penrith in 3 weeks even if we win our next 3 games convincingly. We are rated where we were at start of the year good enough to beat the bottom 10-11 teams. We can jag a win against the top 4-5 but will more then likely be outgunned.
Agreed
But it shouldn't be unrealistic for us to put an average team like the knights who are without the best 5 players to the sword. I reckon realistically we are an 18 point better team and thats being generous. Obivously we will have to see how the game pans out as the refs may be a factor as well
Your assertion is supported by the fact that our for-and-against is 16.4 points per game better than theirs after 12 rounds. I'm expecting us to win easily today, though I have put $100 on the Knights (I got on them at $3.25 before they blew out fml) in case our recent form is indicative of deeper problems within our playing group. I hope I lose my money and I expect to.

I'm pretty certain you've done your dough there, the Knights played well last week, but I reckon Manly were also off the pace having put so much into the game against us the week before. Regardless of the guys they have out, I expect for the Knights it'll be the same, and they'll be a bit flat.

If their squad is so inherently great then why weren’t they premiership favourites at the start of 2020?

Because nobody knew how good their squad was. Quite a few of their players had breakout seasons during 2020. They were certainly favourites at the start of 2021.

I

They were barely expected to make the 8 last year, now they are amazing and the squad is full of stars apparently.
A year is a long time in footy. Squads change a lot from year to year, especially with a lot of young players who can improve massively over an off season. Likewise a team full of old players (like the Raiders and Roosters) is more likely than others to have their season ruined by injury.

Have you seen their team? We should be winning this comfortably. It would be a huge worry if we bumbled our way to victory against a team missing Ponga, Pearce, Saifiti, Klemmer and Frizell.
Ignoring the opposition performance is ridiculous. It’s not like they are going to throw out a team of under 13s. Yes I’d like us to play well and pressure them but if they contend with that pressure and even return it then it’s not going to be a blowout score but it will be a better game for us to develop and fix some deficiencies.

If we don't win this in our sleep then we're shot ducks. I mean, playing the Knights in Newcastle with half their team out on Old Boys Day, it's a no brainer. All we have to do is turn up.
