I just liken it to the NBA (who with play-in have at least evened it out for who does and doesn’t make it) where the 8th placed team in West would’ve finished 5th in East. Invariably one conference is going to be tougher so your finals place is largely going to be determined by your conference and draw

With the NBA as an example they seem to have different teams winning it alot more than the NRL with our draw and salary cap system which is supposed to even our the competition

They also have 2 thirds of the league make the playoffs where in each conference they play 3 rounds of 7 game series plus an additional 3 games for teams making up numbers before a final 7 game series for the championship. That adds a lot of variety. Comparing salary caps is unfair. The NBA cap is probably the most solid legal document in sports where the NRL cap is done on the fly like their match day officiating

I'm not so sure. The NBA has 30 teams and had 11 different champions since 2000. The NRL only has 16/17 teams and had 10 different premiers since the Year 2000. Percentage wise the NRL has more variation.

How's that looking for the last 10 year?
I am seeing 8 different champs

Correct the NRL salary cap is spoke about being perfect which evens the talent... Which it doesn't.

As much as i want this season end.

I still think 22 or 24 games is going to be range of club games we play every year.

At the end of the day we want content.

Shorten the season means there is less footy on our screens. And we would be whinging how bored everyone is.

Are clubs are going to charge less for memberships or season tickets for less games.

I doubt it.

… wouldn’t the draw still determine finals places? On top of that the strength of your conference will determine your finals place?
Conference are selected based on previous years ladder position (sorted by net F/A) and odds and evens - 1st, 3rd, 5th etc and 2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.

Play own conference twice and other conference once for 25 games (if 18 teams). Top 4 from each play off to determine conference winner and then the 2 winners play off for Premiership title.

20 teams 4 pools.

Games Breakdown:Intra-Pool (Division): Play each team in your pool twice (home and away): 4 opponents × 2 = 8 games.

Intra-Conference (Other Pool): Play each team in the other pool of your conference once: 5 opponents × 1 = 5 games.

Inter-Conference: Play each team in the other conference once: 10 opponents × 1 = 10 games.
Total: 8 intra-pool + 5 intra-conference + 10 inter-conference = 23 games.

To make further mockery of NRL cap, the NBA has to navigate the fact players in different states will be taxed at wildly different rates. We’re in a comp where most of the teams are within a Sydney hour’s drive time
