"A big tuba in the strings section" says Voss of that Dog's forward run.

Voss thinks he's some sort of wordsmith with his left of centre metaphors yet he just comes across like an egotistical know-nothing show pony who was given too much praise as a kid.

I heard a snippet of the great Ray French on MMM today calling Wigan and a try by Martin Chariots Offiah and wowee, that's how you call a game.

Dan Ginane started like Ray French, actually calling what was happening on the field, told you who was passing to who, how far out, what was happening on the blind and who was in open field, set up the picture perfectly in your mind's eye.

All we get now is this pablum and dross from the likes of Voss who we're all supposed to pretend is articulate and evocative when he's nothing but a fat gutted clown show propped up by the Panthers GM with media connections.

Agree. Moses is the best half and best player in the comp on his day. Now, if we could just keep him injury free for a year.

Fair call, though Moses has never really busted a big game open, club level at least
The Cheese recently said on that podcast with Graham how he hated coming up against Moses. He knew that Moses would keep booting the ball back no matter what Scum did to 10 metres of their goal line and they'd have to start all over again.

That talent alone makes Moses the most valuable player in the NRL today. On top of that he can at times be a fast paced genius with a penchant for sniffing out a try.

Stephen Crichton is the best player in the comp by far
He has started to speak a lot better than he use to since that young Dolphins half and the NRLW started setting a much-needed high standard for RL in that regard. That was always a big problem for league.

I still like Voss but only because he cut his teeth / did an apprenticeship calling the commonwealth bank cup. He is self-made in that regard.

Ginane when he started on MMM would say "Parra are running from left to right on your dial".

Not, "Parra are running from the southern end" or at SFS "Parra are running from the Paddington end" . I wouldn't have a f**ken clue where the Paddington end is that a mardi gras reference?

All they have to do is keep the job simple like pretty much every other job: do what it says in the job description..

If I'm calling a game of NRL state who is passing to who, what side of the field it is and what the opposition are doing to counter-act the offense. Keep that up for all the game and when you get good at it add more descriptive terms and observations of what is actually happening, not tubas and strings.

I think on that Commonwealth Bank Cup call he would tell you the bio of the various kids and at the same time he'd call the game. Yeah, he was good back then. He should reacquaint himself with that time by going over old tapes of his calls.
