Re-signing the Nathans and buying real players.

I am aware that Cayless and Hindmarsh's contracts are valid until the end of 2005. re-signing them is a priority. They will however need to know who will be coach post-Smith. I have heard that Ricketson will be shown the door, next year as will Fletcher. I would sign them both to contracts. When we had a reasonable halfback solution in Taylor in 2001 we were a whisker away from winning it. I believe this has been our problem since 1986. Assuming Witt and Tim Smith are not the answer I would sign Orford to a long term deal and negotiate the release of Dykes, Vella, Wagon and Lyon so as to free up the money. From the players that we signed recently I would release Moi Moi, Kativerata, Muspratt, Muckert, Webster, Peterson, Langi and Pai. I would reward Mckinnon and Grothe for recent outstanding form with new contracts ASAP. I would also offer Hindmarsh 500k to stay as he is the lifeblood of the club.

Any comments??

The signing or development of a top ranking halback is the main objective. I just wish the process of signing players was less like a monopoly game.

I think signing a guy like Orford to a long term deal = Witt and Tim Smith getting upset......I'm not saying we shouldn't, but maybe we have to make do till Tim Smith is ready if he is the great hope people say he is.

Guess what Avenger!!

I agree with you wholeheartedly!!. [please don't have a heart attack]

We need to start to build a team around the Nathens!! we need to be shrewd and cunning and offer the Orfords, Pritchards, Cross's , Utai and ElMasri's shit loads to sign baring Grothe and McKinnon all players off contract should be shown the door and a few more who are still under contract for next season given permission to negotiate with other clubs. This needs to be done right away!!

1] release all players from the fulltime squad off contract at the end of the year except McKinnon and Grothe [this doesn't include Ben Smith, Anderson, Mateo etc]

2] hand pick some players who arn't putting in and are under contract for next year, and there's plenty permission to negotiate with other clubs. NOW!!!

3] Form a hitlist that could get us back into the top eight and from 12:01 am July 1 start hounding their managers like theres no tomorrow.

4] Pay out Smith, or ask him to step aside and act as a consultant, I really don't care who coach's them as long as we get some fresh ideas there. I guess JT!! will do me at the moment.

Your thoughts???

I think we do have the halves......just not the backs to match it, we lack so much creativity know......we need some Solomona's to give us variety.

instead of orford how bout we sign scott hill and have witt come up and have them play the way finch fittler have, let hill guide the team for good part of the season and slowly hand more responsability over to witt worked great with finch he sucked when he arrived at rooters now look at how he has grown into a top half and leader....by buying hill would be a good idea due to his experience and leadership....

i agree with the idea of buying ricketson he hindy and fletcher playing together would basically make it ideal due t them playing almost 80 mins each game

well hill would have to be available for that to happen - which he is not - he resigned with them long term last season

I think the basis of a good halves combo is already there, somewhere in the mix but it is glaringly obvious that they have no-one to pass it to. Petersen is a joke, Langi doesn't get involved enough, Vaeliki can also be lazy and Jamie is not interested. I think it is time to give these young kids a go from PL and Flegg, see which ones can create chances and let the others go. It is no good being competitive in every other grade except the one that counts. I would swap 7 club championships for 1 premiership any day of the week.

How bout we sign nobody and use the young juniors, cause basically we've hardly done that for the last few years. Instead of buying rejects from other clubs, resign these youngsters because I think most of the guys in PL and Jersey Flegg are future first graders.

I know Orford and Hill are good players, but what Parramatta spends a lot of money on those guys and they turn out to be injured or a waste of money. eg. Adam Dykes and possibly Aaron Cannings

Think about it, we need to clean out all the garbage in the club, get rid of the ones who arent good enough and dont try enough. Once you wear that Parramatta jersey you must give 100% week in week out.

Bring back the passion.

i read where the souths management were complaining that they are in the predicament of having to pay premium dollars for average players as they are not an attractive club to sign with.

are parra much different at the moment???

what established first grader, especially with designs on a premiership or rep duties, would choose to come here.

we can wish all we want but the facts are we have struggled for nearly 20 years to attract quality players without paying the premium amount ( and then some) for them.

Developing juniors is the way to go.
Parra's juniors have always come through, we have proof in Hindy, Caylo, Vella etc, plus some other Parra juniors who are no longer with us.
Keep the guys like hindy, caylo, vella, grothe, mckinnon etc & just raise our juniors.
However, we do need to buy a few class players in some positions for eg: Centre - but f**k all this buying of average players - stick with raising our young blokes!

Trouble is, no club makes it to the top simply by raising juniors. The perpetually strong clubs chase every decent signature on the market. Clubs like Parra spend heaps raising players who turn out to be, more often than not, like Greg Drake.

Your exactly right Misty!!..Fitzy made the fatal mistake in the late 80's and early 90's by adopting a youth policy which obviously failed! we relied too much on Erikson, Crncovich, Mahon, Barnes and Cassatto and they simply didn't turn out to be the players we hoped they would be.

I'm quietly confiedent that with 3 to 4 biggish names as well as the progression of a couple of juniors such as Mateo, Anderson and Smith we could bounce back next year.

However this year is a basketcase and I hope sanity will eventually prevail in the coaching front and he does step aside for the good of the club.

wishful thinking.
