Trouble is, no club makes it to the top simply by raising juniors. The perpetually strong clubs chase every decent signature on the market. Clubs like Parra spend heaps raising players who turn out to be, more often than not, like Greg Drake.

Greg Drake played first grade. Did you?? Just asking, not trying to be smart or anything..
Greg gave the Club good service by my recollection. and was signed by Souths. (when Smithy was there     - must been signing Parra rejects in those days. Now, according to you he signs Souths rejects. That's a funny turn around innit.     )

This is not a serious post, just my attempt to inject a little humour. If I was on the Continous Call team, Bolts, Blocker and Bozo would be spliiting their sides now with false laughter

parra pete, ur a dropkick, even ur jokes make no sense....brian smith coached souths under 23s in 1980-1, so he could never have signed parra rejects!

but still, ur attempts to fit in with this new-fangled thing called a sense of humour are admirable....now if u could just bring the rest of ur thinking beyond 1974 then we may have a chance of getting a relevant comment from you!

Greg Drake was as effective as a turd on a dunny Brush...a sepositry in a ear...a crucifix up the arse...he was plain shit.

Fitzy made the huge mistake of paying good money to retain our 1988 Presidents Cup wining side.....it took to 95 to finally change the game plan well 96 actually.

Why do we not try and get the greatest of all organisers in Andrew Johns and give him over 500K for his troubles??

Clubs have been successful recently by doing this, Penrith in 2003, Newcastle in 2001, Brisbane in 1998 and 2000. And those clubs are still doing it. I mean two years who ever heard of the Brett Seymours, the Kurt Gidleys, the Luke Swains.

Sure they dont win premierships all the time by raising juniors, but they still stay on top. And its not just the juniors its recruiting good young footballers from other clubs with a future ahead of them.

Sadly, a lot of the Brett Seymours, Kurt Gidleys and Luke Swains turn out to be Luke Burts.
