Recording on foxtel

G'day.

When the idiots came out to reinstall foxtel in the new unit they changed it, you used to have to go the AV channel on VCR to get into it, now it goes through the AV on the TV.

But weirdly enough it still uses the AV channel on the TV that the VCR has to go through, and to access the VCR I have to hit AV on the foxtel.

I know this is confusing.

But do I just hit record on the VCR to record? Or do I have to fiddle with the cords.

Thanks for the help.

Cheers.

You can still record using the RF leads if they're connected, you just have to tune the Foxtel box in through your VCR.

The AV button on your Foxtel remote is primarily used to "lock" a channel, it prevents the channel from being changed if you accidentally hit a button, or putting graphics up on screen when you're recording. Also, if you're using the Scart cables to your TV, you can use it and the Foxtel button to change channels on your TV over to Foxtel, or even switch the TV on and over to Foxtel.

So its normal that I have to hit the AV button to switch to the VCR, I just find it weird that I can have the VCR off and foxtel still works .....

Digital boxes have 2 AV outputs. Most people use one for the TV, one for the VCR.

Check the volume on your Digital remote, there's a good chance it's switched off. One of the AV outputs isn't affected when you raise or lower the volume, the other one is, as is the RF output.

this'll really make your head spin then... you should also be able to turn off your Foxtel bax and still play back from the VCR.

Lifeboats and a helicopter scoured the sea to track down an electronic distress signal - only for coastguards to discover it came from a British retiree's faulty digital television box on dry land.

The coastguards were scrambled after a rescue coordination center in Scotland picked up what it believed to be a distress signal coming from the sea off southern England.

But communications experts later traced the signal to the digital television set-top box in the home of 67-year-old Mary Donaldson in the western town of Plymouth.

"We sent a helicopter out and two lifeboats before we discovered that the signal was in fact coming from inland," a spokesman for the coastguards said Wednesday.

Donaldson was at the cinema when the experts tracked down the signal. "We sent two officers there to investigate and they were still there when the lady came home," the spokesman said.

The incident late last month was the second time this year a set-top box in Britain has been blamed for a distress signal. Communications regulator Ofcom said both boxes were being analyzed but stressed such cases were extremely rare.
