Yes, I just read where Jack had posted a while ago that there would not be a podcast last week ( he picked a good one to miss anyway). I panicked over nothing!

Jack and Curtis deliver a no-punches-pulled review of the Dragons’ dismal Round 9 loss to the Tigers, questioning coaching decisions, team selections, and recruitment failures. They preview the tough clash against the Warriors, wrap up lower grades, and answer fan questions on footy IQ, mental prep, and the club’s future.

Gday Jack , completely understandable that the losses of the last few weeks - or more the pathetic manner of how they lost would put you in a dark mood - which is really what it sounds like on this weeks podcast.
It’s been a tough decade for us long suffering fans.
I have always been in full agreement with your criticism of both the board and previous coaches but to be honest I found this weeks podcast very hard to listen to. I actually had to turn It off just before the half way mark this week - first time ever I‘ve stopped listening. I thought your call of nepotism and spinelessness on the coach was really harsh. I was very lukewarm - well actually completely unenthused - on the Ilias signing and I’ve seen nothing from him so far that suggests he’s the right guy for the job. Kyle has his weaknesses and sure he should be under the microscope but to me Illias was offering very little apart from being the designated last tackle kicker - and not very doing well at that. Either way, regardless of which decision was right, I feel you might have worded things a bit differently if you weren’t (understandably) expressing about a decades worth of frustration. This is not meant to be an attack on you - because I really enjoy your podcast and the fact that you will always call a spade a spade. You’ve been an important voice for disenfranchised Dragons fan for quite a while. Anyway just a different view on the Illias situation from me. And of course we don’t have to agree.
My hope is that as Flanno continues to bring in the younger group the dumb dragons footy IQ will gradually get flushed out of our system - and please bear in mind we’re at 4 debutants this year and Flanno is saying there is more to come. That never would have happened under Griffin or McGregor.
The coach is the right man for the job. Unfortunately the roster is still not there yet.
And yeah, watching the Dragons play has been a very unrewarding experience for a very long time. It’s been bleak hasn’t it?
Hopefully there is some positives things to talk about on the podcast in the near future.
Thanks for the podcast and I hope you’re good to jump back on the horse again next week.

Glad you’ve finally come around to seeing the truth about Kyle Flanagan in terms of his sever on-field limitations and the obvious protection being provided by his dad.
I recall you originally being on board with his extension but in reality, the nepotism has always been obvious - he was signed from the Dogs reserve grade bench (when no other coach would touch him) and parachuted into a FG starting halves spot with no competition. Then he was extended 1 year out from his contract end, despite mediocre-at-best form in 2024 and absolutely no competition for his signature, effectively locking out any potential halfback recruitment for 2026 and 2027. He’s then allowed to coast along with little attacking input and be completely invisible in the team, despite being the senior and supposedly dominant half while Ilias takes on all the responsibility in a new team, despite just coming back from a crushing injury. Then when Ilias is dropped, he’s kept out of the spotlight in the 6 jersey so the focus can remain on the 19yo 5/8 who’s named in the 7.
Then to top it all off, Daddy claims that he is the second best performing player in the team!!!

Blatant and obvious nepotism and is likely to be the downfall of Shane until he has an adult conversation with his reserve-grade quality son. Great work to finally call it out!

I persevered Jack, but almost couldn't. I share Since77's views but your passion is great.

Consider this post as a man hug, it seems you need it.

I think jack is on the point 100% with everything that he states in his podcast, Flanagan is god awful as a half , offers absolutely nothing in attack, fairly decent defender, but nothing in attack, predictable, slow. His kicking game is let’s just kick it straight down the opposite fullbacks throat 10 times a game. He is bound the drop one eventually. King-Togia showed more in 80 minutes against the Tigers than Flanagan has in what 30 odd games for the dragons. If Flanagan sr can’t see that, well maybe he is a small part of bigger problems that the Dragons are currently going through.

Where does he say he’s the second best performing player in the team?
Only quotes I saw were from article where he says he’s been one of our best.
That’s not true obviously but is the second best player thing real? Or are you adding mayo?

He doesn't use the term "second best", he says “Kyle and ‘Gutho’ have been our best players all year".

So I guess "Top 2" is probably more apt than "second best". I apologise for misleading you Crush, and I also apologise to Kyle for assuming that his daddy placed Gutho above him, instead of alongside him.

Interesting you choose this topic as your first message on the forum. You’re 100% welcome to your opinion. So is Jack.
But I’ll humour you and give you the benefit of the doubt you’re not a troll. As I said in my post, which you clearly didn’t bother taking the time to read in the spirit it was meant, I love and appreciate Jack’s podcast and I have always agreed with him in the past in his regular justifiable criticisms of Dragon’s management and previous coaches. But I think in particular the use of the word “spinelessness” in regards to the coach was way out of line. And I appreciate that he probably said that out of frustration after the way the last two games went down.
To paraphrase your own debut post, King Togia showed more in 80 minutes than Ilias has shown all season. The things you criticise KF for, Ilias is just as guilty of, and worse at, particularly his laughably predictable long kicking game and utterly non existent game management. Personally I’d take KF over Ilias every day of the week, not because he’s great but because he’s better. Not much perhaps, but better. If Shane Flanagan is guilty of anything in my opinion it is for panicking and buying a dud halfback - Ilias. Should have just punted on LKT from the start.
And if you’re foolish enough to think that the premiership winning coach who is in the middle of rebuilding a club and roster that was left in a total shambles by over a decade of mismanagement in addition to rebuilding his own personal reputation is part of the problem - and if you’re foolish enough to think he is willing to further damage the club and his future career prospects in the pursuit of nepotism then I really can’t help you.

Yeah right, delusional or cunning media propaganda right there.
If I had to rank Kyle this year out of 17, he’d be about the 10th best player, maybe, dunno, last week he was embarrassing, should have scored 2 tries himself.
Anywho.

...so you think Flano didn't say the thing that he's quoted as saying? Or are you suggesting he is delusional?

If your rank out of 17 refers to our Top 17, he'd be Top 5 for effort but bottom 5 for ability.
If your rank out of 17 refers to the 17 clubs' starting 6, he wouldn't be in the Top 17...

I think extending Kyle until 2027 was a mistake and would not have happened if his father wasn’t the HC.

But was anyone surprised? As Flano said after the biting allegation, ‘I‘m a father first.’

First of all buddy, not a troll, far from it. Only recently joined the forums , hence my first comment, now reading through your reply to my comment, you are kidding yourself with what you have stated. Ilias is far from a dud halfback, Flanagan has had how many chances now in first grade? And tell me exactly what he has achieved? Tell me what he has done this year? You talk about game management. Okay give me Flanagan’s game management on the weekend. Kick on the fifth tackle straight down the fullbacks throat repeatedly, throw constant shit passes. Now let’s say I’m completely wrong about everything in your somewhat distorted view on rugby league. Do you think coach Flanagan will drop his son if he comes to it? Or do you think he will just keep putting him out there every week sticking his head in the sand nothing to see here?

The Dragons forwards got blown of the park, obliterated and embarrassed by the roosters. Zero line speed, couldn’t make any metres and opened up like a can of home brand tuna. And the solution to that is to drop the halfback? Who’s just come off two great performances against Manly and the titans? Why? It doesn’t fix anything, it doesn’t address anything, Ilias isn’t responsible for what happened in that game. So I agree, it is completely spineless.
As for Kyle he’s a reserve grade level player, he’s the worst half in the NRL, he can’t read a game and he has none of the skills required from an nrl half, he constantly picks the wrong decision, he can’t kick, he has a crap passing game. He’s been bad in 6 out of our 8 games and Shane literally said he and Gutherson have been our best players this season! I don’t know how thag doesn’t raise an eyebrow with anyone.

I’m say Flano is either delusional or he’s spinning propaganda that Kyle is one of our best or indeed our best player.
Because that’s clearly not true.
Amd ranking him within our top 17, ofcourse he wouldn’t make other clubs top 17 but then neither would many if our players, how many teams do Sloan, Allen, Fegai, Finau, CTP walk into the wing spots?

Shocking Pod this week and I’m a fan of the pod. All this talk about Liddle needs more minutes, cook needs more minutes. Where are we supposed to fit 2 specialist hookers in for 120 minutes a game?! We tried cook through at 13 and our defence looked diabolical in those short periods. Not to mention, besides couchman, our front row has been god awful at making meters we need those bigger players at 13, especially with wingers that can’t do the hard carries out of our end. It seems like you’re just being pissed off for the sake of being pissed off

Love your passion Jackyboi. I feel your pain but we just need to hang in there. As mentioned above we are seeing more juniors playing in FG which is a positive. This year was never going to be a premiership winning year but at least they are preparing for the future by blooding juniors. How good are Couchman, Egan and Stewart? They are the bright light. I do agree though, I hate the fact that they say they have to come into grade slowly. Robbo at the Chooks is proving that you can throw them straight in, just like Ricky has done.

Lancaster has done well with the board and is slowly culling the deadwood and bringing in guys like Creagh and now Coyne. I am hoping the new CEO comes in all guns blazing. If the Saints are playing poorly there is more chance he will make immediate changes to be honest. If they are playing ok and are mid table, he may be more hesitant. They need immediate change especially in recruitment.

Kyle is being picked purely because of depth I feel. I think Illias needed a spell in NSW Cup as his kicking game was not the best as he rarely found the grass with his long range kicks which was frustrating. Unfortunately 1 had to go and Illias got the chop. In years to come I can see the chances of Illias becoming a regular half more than Kyle. Kyle will be used as a utility once they get some depth in that position.
