Reds Snap Up French Half-Back Starlet

Salford City Reds have swooped to sign highly-rated French wonderkid Theo Fages from under the noses of their Super League rivals on a two-and a half year deal.

The 16-year old half-back spent some time with the Reds earlier in the year training with the first team and the Academy. He then came back to further negotiations and see the Reds play Castleford Tigers a few weeks ago with his father Pascal, himself a Former French International who toured with the national side in the 90s.

Theo, who lists New Zealand Benji Marshall as the player he models himself on, first came to the Reds attention when a close friend of his family, contacted Steve Simms, who he knew from their time together at Featherstone Rovers.

Good to see, I don't care that he has signed with another RL club because at least he's still in RL, the Union clubs over there have been signing any RL junior lately that shows any talent.

Give it a few years and I think the ESL will start to have plenty of French players running around like NZ players in the NRL.

As said on that thread, the more Frenchmen at SL clubs the better. Theo has apparently been going pretty well for Salford's U18s, after he joined they went on something like a 7 match winning streak.
