Reds snare Raiders skipper
July 13, 2006

CANBERRA Raiders skipper Chris Schifcokske is set to announce he is switching codes to play Super 14 with Queensland Reds.

The Reds have been chasing the Queensland State of Origin fullback for the past month, and are expected to announce his signing at a media conference in Brisbane this afternoon. Schhifcoske is seen as a goalkicking winger by Reds coach Eddie Jones.

The 30-year-old is the latest in a string of experienced Canberra players to leave the club despite encouraging results this season.

Schifcofske expected to announce switch
Canberra Raiders captain Clinton Schifcofske is expected to announce that he is switching codes and signing for the Queensland Reds this afternoon.

The Super 14 side has been courting Schifcofske, who was born in Queensland and has made no secret of his desire to move north to be closer to his family.

The Reds have been searching for corporate cash to shore up the deal while the Raiders and the National Rugby League reportedly offered him a post-football career in a bid to keep him in the ACT.

The 30-year-old full-back has been with the Raiders since 2000.

He is currently on contract until the end of the 2008 season but has a clause in his contract which allows him to leave the club when coach Matthew Elliott joins Penrith next season.

i've lost a lot of respect for clinton lately
i don't know why he'd switch
he's got everything to lose, and not too much to gain

Good choice Clinton. Be prepared to never see the ball again if you are playing on the wing...

Geez I dont think this is a good move for Clinton IMO.

No doubt a huuuge loss for Canberra, has really done well for them. I think the Raiders are gonna struggle next year, losing Woolford, Schifcoske and their coach.

Union can take some of our players, but we can produce players and replace them, they cant. :D

League has lost the only player who answers every question with the words `that's a good question'. It's mortifying

Exactly, could extend his career a long way.

Also, the national club comp next year will be more interesting than the previous club rugby.

Good decision in my opinion.
Such a good consistant footballer who is so underated. He is Hidden behind a mortifying breed of talented fullbacks leading the new generation. Given a chance at State level, he has never let his state down, but never seems to get recalled.

At least in Union he will be recognised as one of the games best fullbacks in the country and can play at a higher level constantly.

He wants to move his family to Brisbane. Who can blame him? Canberra is a very boring place.

It seems to be a contest between Canberra and Cronulla to see who can hang on the least amount of players for 2007.

I don't give a sh*t about him but I think it is seriously messed up how he said he wouldn't go so he could get a rep game. Prick.

Also, he is 30, with all that league has given him, it cant guarentee him a future post footy. He is getting his last big pay packet.

Pity the article has stated he will be used as a winger.

Would Marshall Chalk be the likely replacement at fullback down at Canberra, Ive seen him a few times, he goes alright.
