Well on the back of two solid home performances we once again hit the runway and head East. Cabramatta have been inconsistent like us and only sit a couple of places above us. Bad news is we have moved mcmenemy back to stand off despite his best performances coming at loose forward and we have a couple of players missing.

A win here will see us back challenging for a possibility at the playoffs as we follow this with two more home games.

Come on lads stay focused and start strongly!

Reds look to continue winning run

Thursday, June 19, 2008

The come from behind win to the Reds last week has provided the necessary confidence for the team who are looking to take a step up this week against the Cabramatta Blues in Sydney.
The Blues who sit in fifth position with just one win more than the Reds have had an erratic season where they have beaten top sides and lost to lower sides, so the opening is there for the WA team to build some pressure on the opposition.
The WA Reds have made two changes to the side with Zac Keating away for two weeks overseas and Ryan Dickson out for a few weeks with a broken jaw received from a high tackle against Erina.
They have been replaced by two forwards with Michael Small coming back into the side and James McGowan making his debut after a standout performance representing WA in Alice Springs two weeks ago.
Best on ground against Erina, Shayne McMenemy will move back into five eight.
The Reds last week were rewarded with the win through sheer hard work in the second half and now understand the sort of effort that is required to match and then run over any side in the competition.
Coach Chris Dever will again ask for the same input from his group and will not accept any backward step.
The will be played at 3.00pm (Sydney time) at Cabramatta Sports Ground.
Team list below.

Date: 22/06/2008Reds Go Missing In 2nd Half

After a good start and solid first half, the WA Reds gave the game away to go down to the Cabramatta Blues 22 to 30. While not a bad loss in points it was another game which could have been won after holding the lead at half time.
The Reds continue to show the competition they know how to play and can match it with any side, but it is the same story as for many of their games with their inexperience leading to errors and the lack of ability to keep the pressure up for 80 minutes.
From the outset the Reds came out firing with Delane Edwards scoring under the posts after a kick over the top for a lifting start. The score was very quickly leveled at 6 all after a high ball was dropped by full back Ben Lindegaard on the line to hand over the ball for an easy try to the Blues.
Lindegaard was quick to respond though and scored in the corner soon after and from there the WA Reds were able to control the play for a good part of the first half.
Tyrone Coppedge scored again in the corner at the 20 minute mark to give the WA side a 10 point lead. Cabramatta were not to be denied and ran in another two tries to level the score at 16 all, before Shayne McMenemy scored the Reds fourth try.
At 22 to 16 at half time the WA Reds seemed to have the upper hand and on their way to a win against the higher placed Blues.
But in a similar way to previous games on the road, the Reds gave up too many penalties and made too many mistakes which allowed Cabramatta to come back in the second half.
After the Reds having to defend five sets in a row, the Blues leveled at 22 all and went on to score another two unconverted tries to finish the game over the top of the Reds.
Nathan Searle was the best player for the WA Reds in a lacklustre showing.
Coach Chris Dever rued another one that got away.
“As the case for earlier games, the boys handed over the ball far too cheaply in the second half. We played good football for the first half and were doing all the right things and then let ourselves down.”
“It was very disappointing considering the start we had. A combination of simple mistakes and soft penalties meant we just could not get enough of the ball to make a difference.”
The WA Reds now go into two games at home before the general bye. The games against Wentworhville Magpies and Belrose Eagles are both winnable and with a vocal home crowd, it is hoped the local side will be able to go into the break with a little more pride than they have at the moment.
The kick off next Saturday night is 7.30pm at Members Equity Stadium.
