Referee accountability

How was Maxwell not dropped after his disgraceful decision on the Tonuamaipea "no try" last week?

Badger and Galea need to be stood down for the "try" they gave in the Titans-Knights game this week.

I agree to some extent with referee accountability but how many players were dropped for poor decisions possibly costing their team the game?

It changes the whole comp when shit like that happens, Storm should be 3/3 instead there 2/3, those 2 points could effect the whole table at the end of the year.

Those players punishment is that their team didn't get the 2 points (the only thing that matters in the end), what's the referees punishment?

The trouble with the fans is they want it both ways. If a ref makes a call on the spot and it's wrong they yell "sack him", but the match between Tigers and Souths today, received complaints from Phil Gould on how many stoppages there were by refs going to video replay.

Video replay should only be used when it's absolutely necessary. Sacking Maxwell is just going to discouraged refs using their own initiative, and will encourage referees referring every try to the video ref.

Continually going to Video ref ruins fluidness of the game, its that simple.

While I agree with what you're saying, the issue we've seen this weekend has nothing to do with it. This system of "going with the refs call" has now changed things from the refs being scared to make a call to the video refs being too scared to change their call.

Nobody wants to take blame for things going wrong so the refs send it upstairs and the video ref says "no, no, I'll go with you so if it's wrong it's your fault".

Tonight's game was a clear knock on that should have been called back, yesterday the Eels got a try after it went forward off Mau's hand. They should have had a scrum feed 10 metres out.

These were obvious clear as day decisions that the video ref refused to make just to absolve themselves of any real blame should it later be proven incorrect.

how many of those players had 10 attempts in slow motion to get it right. not many i'm guessing.

players stuff up making snap decisions, maxwell last week stuffed up and probably should have gone upstairs. meh.

the idiot today made a decision that was unforgivable and cost the team the game after having the luxury of seeing it from all angles in stop motion. doesn't understand a basic tenet of the game.

St George got away with a forward pass in 1977.

But that was St George, not St George-Illawarra, so go the whinge all you like.

I sometimes think that refs should make their own calls (no video ref review) and only the captain can call for a video review ( limit of a 3 per game each side) of a decision.

That's for another thread "video ref accountability". I agree he should be sacked!!

Great idea, the challenge system.

If the captain asks for a decision to be checked & is proven right, he doesn't lose the challenge, like in cricket.

The challenge system won't change the fact that video ref's can't get the calls right. A perfect example of that was the Sims knock-on last night
