I'd expect that sort of spread would happen every year, except with different teams.

Funny how many here are quick to bag the easiest target in league; the referee. I have no doubt that refs get decisions wrong but how many missed tackles, dropped balls etc does your own team make? How responsible do you think this is for your teams losing? Referees are not any better or worse than before, except we now use super slowmo to analyse every little detail. Give them a break.
