Ref's using players names (minor spoiler)

Never really bothered me until tonight. At the 23 min mark in the Sharks v's Cowboys game, Colin Best makes a big break that should have resulted in a try (but that's another story).

When Best starts his run, the ref yells out "James, James, James" indicating Segeyaro, quite correctly, was offside. Trouble is Best was running between him and James Tamou. When Tamou hears the call he also doesn't get involved and Best gets a free passage.

Really think the refs need to shut their mouths and if an offside player gets involved, penalise him but don't continually counsell the defence on who can be involved.

Didnt see the game, but agree with your point. Sick of hearing refs tell players how to play the game.

Numbers for me. ...and they shouldn't warn players offside, just penalise them like they used to.

Should definitely use numbers.
I'm fine with them giving a warning but just one '7 your off' is enough. From there team mates usually pull them into line too.

Or they could just let the player make the tackle and penalise them.. I dont know who started all this coaching of players by refs but im guessing it was Harrigan

Poor ruck defense according to Laurie daley

Didnt hear the refs call but I wondered why both players pulled out of the tackle

having my sports ears on during that game tonight, I wanted to rip the f**king things off due to the constant coaching from both refs and the amount of shit they were dribbling the whole game to the players. It was driving me nuts.

I think it was Ash Graham, took a 20m tap after bringing a ball that went over the dead ball line, all the cowboys were back onside, he tapped it and took a few steps forward and the refs blew the whistle and made him go back and tap it again, the reason explained in my ear phones was 'because I have to get them to hold' or words to that effect............. I am assuming he meant the sharkies in defence, but that moment there f**king infuriated me, why the hell does he have to get the sharkies to hold the line???? if they are offside they are offside, what benefit did the team with the ball get from running it back and tapping as per the rules???

I very rarely bag the refs but sometimes they just don't help themselves, that penalty for taking out Ray Thompson mid kick was right per the rules, but the rule is a f**king joke. As I said in the game day thread, the kickers these days can wear an armani dinner suit with the amount of pandering they are allowed when kicking. That should not have been a penalty to us, it was deadset ridiculous.

If refs just penalised without warning we would then have people in here complaining about too many penalties.

Every time a ref has a joke and laugh with a player it makes me cringe...

Im all for players and refs doing whatever the f**k they want off the field, but on the field everyone should be treated equal, and thats why players should be called by their #'s. Makes the game look more professional.

Also, the top players get way more lee-way in penalties too, but thats best saved for another discussion.
