As much as I will admit that Hegarty fizzled out badly later in his career in 2003 he was having some very good seasons and I don't think you could argue he didnt deserve some sort of recognition at the time. Villasanti played in that game and was a far worse selection then Hegarty.

Edit; posting under this quote was a mistake I meant to post under the image.

Hegarty was average at best, was just lucky to be in a great team at the time. Villasanti definitely earnt his jumper at the time, IIRC he was one of the dominate forwards at the back end of 2013 and was smashing blokes left right and centre. I think people get mixed up with what happened on tour, and how his career fizzled out after, that they forget that for a small window of time ( about 10 weeks) he was one of the best forwards in the game.

This leads me to my question, does anyone have a pic of his ill fated comeback? (Think it was at Cronulla)

Villasanti was a career bench player from memory and apart from that brief run of form at the end of 2003 he did very little in his career. Pretty much the reason he got selected was because the team was decimated by injuries and we just went with him because he did very well in the 2003 finals. Villasanti is my worst player to play for Australia because he never came close to playing for NSW or Country (presuming he is a country boy) when some other 'worst players' at least did. I can at least remember Hegarty doing some good things around that time.

My memory of both Hegarty and Villasanti is pretty hazy I will admit so i'm just going off memory.

Gorilla was a three game wonder.

Hegarty took shits that achieved more in Rugby League. He was washed up by the time that he joined the Cowboys and that clouds people's memories.
