Reni Maitua 18th Man For NSW

BULLDOGS forward Reni Maitua has been included in the New South Wales Origin squad as 18th man for game two at Telstra Stadium on Wednesday night.

Maitua, who will arrive in camp tonight, will be on stand-by should there be any late injury concerns.
The call-up was timely for the Maitua, who celebrates his 25th birthday today.
Maitua, who has played one Test for Australia, against New Zealand in the opening game of the 2006 Tri-Nations series, is yet to play for NSW.
But he has only a slim chance of making his state debut at Telstra Stadium, with the entire Blues squad emerging unscathed from today's penultimate training session.

Paul Gallen, Anthony Watmough, Anthony Laffranchi, Ben Creagh, Anthony Tupou all been better than him this year IMO.

What a load of horse sh!t, the bloke hasn't done anything this year, he's played rep footy before when he was in form and playing for a top side. Well guess what selectors, he's way out of form and playing for a bottom side. Doesn't make sense, there are a host of players out there who deserve the spot way more than him. I know in all likelihood he won't play, but think of how guys like Watmough and Gallen feel especially, knowing even with changes they STILL aren't next in line. What a kick in the balls.

id say the fact gallen is playing monday night really counts against him for the 18th man spot.

The two Anthony's, Laffranchi and Watmough would have been more deserving choices.

As suggested, Gallen playing tonight more than likely ruled him out.

bro, he played for Australia at the end of last year- that's all of 12 games ago. I don't think it's such an outrage to suggest that a guy who played for Australia a dozen games back can be 18th man for NSW.

Reni Maitua has been playing good this year. He is suited to origin because he is hyper aggressive and tough as nails. He can also cover centre and 5/8.

Paul Gallen shouldn't be 18th man, he should be in the f**king side

he would be there for his versatility. can cover a range of positions with minimal disruption to the squad.

Yeah Watmough should of made the team anyway, he's got great speed and footwork at the line. He'll carve up the Queenslanders
Why Maitua is 18th man i cant understand.

considering Mason looks like he is the one in doubt, the extra mongrel of whatmough would have been a good replacement.

What does Farah have to do to get any recognition from the selctors, even a token gesture like this

No point having a hooker as your 18th man. You always take a backrower that can cover a few positions- Maitua can play lock/2nd row/five-eighth/centre.
