Review of manly game

Manly were very good in both attack and defence and would have given any side in the competition a run on that performance,

For us: Gordon was great at the back. Earl and Simmons average games on the wing. Jennings and Tighe never saw the ball. Burns tried hard but did nothing creative. Walsh kicked well but the side was all over the shop. seluini looked very sharp. All the props tried hard. Back Row had nothing. No impace from the bench. Kingston was full of mistakes.

Shit game plan from Elliott. We had nothing in attack.

We never looked like beating them.

*: The forst 20mins were great to watch
*: Tahu has Proven to be a worthy signing.
*: Gordon is in cosistant good form, looked to create a combo with Walsh late in the secong half (congratulations, keep practicing)
*: Jennings made a couple of good tackles & looked to be searching for more hands on ball.

Unfortunately Penrith forward pack looks more dangerous when they pass the ball than their backline.

All Manly players had a great game: Enthusiastic, Patient & perfect example how to play like team. Hasler has done a great job with these guys.

I am noticing a lot of commentators to the game are increasingly questioning Walsh's ability as a first grade half as is/has been a lot of Penrith supporters.
He is under a lot of pressure to lead Penrith, I dont think he can do it. I have been a strong supporter of him in the past but it saddens me to now (only now?) realise he is unlikely to improve.

Elliots judgement is undoubtedly questioable as a profesional coach. Every1 knows it

blah blah, you know the rest

time for a scotch
time for a scotcj

The main problem is our forwards don't do anything with the ball. All the backs tried their guts out. Angled runs & inside balls etc. Give us forwards on the angle or offloads & then the centres get more space like last year with Pritchard.

This year we are stuffed. For next year p!ss off Bell & Waterhouse make a play for Blair. That put with a new coach we will be very strong

Our forwards are told not too offload or so i have been told, only the experienced forwards are allowed to offload. Which might explain why someone like McKendry who had a great offload never offloads anymore.

Really we have a big forward pack we should be encouraging our forwards to offload. When i heard this i knew Elliott had to go.

About the game we looked clueless in attack the amount of times on the 4th tackle we turned the ball on the inside for a hit up was infuriating. Especially close to the line we didn't ask any questions at all.

We have some good players who are playing well under there potential for a bad coach and that is the major problem at the moment. We need someone to come in with new ideas and a new system not always hit ups and hope to score from a kick.

I'm also getting the impression that this will be a nothing year. f**k it must be easy to follow a team that is generally successful and competitive year in year out.

Seriously? I thought it was shit and obvious from the opening 20 we would lose and how we would lose. With plenty of ball in the right part of the field but a complete inability to break their line.

You can blame the players as much as you want, but it is our shit game plan with no set moves and the shitty forward up for an inside ball running back into traffic. Even the commentators were getting frustrated not seeing Jennings get any early ball. He is the most electrifying player on the paddock and never sees quality early ball, and that once again comes down to the shit set play from a shit coach. Elliott has to go now and bring in a caretaker coach for the rest of this season. Fans be prepared for a bottom 4 finish.

The other problem is the condensed defence. At times the outside winger was pretty well in line with goal posts. 2 quick passes or a kick and tries are on. Both Joey Johns and Freddy Fittler noticed it. I think that it part of the clubs defensive tactics, with the junior rep teams using it as well. If it stays it is going to be a long year.

Not to mention the absolute predictability of just about every play. I found the dummy half to be the most predictable yesterday. It was just routine, boring and predictable.

It was great not to conceive a try in the first 15mins, after 39mins 10 nil which is an impovement for Penrith.

I agree that it is very disapointing to see the Panthers look so lost playing 20, 10, 5m out side opposition try line.

You think the team would get it right by now

I am content with our defence. Our attack on the otherhand is poor. It can't be tactics. Over the off season Girds, Brandy & Freddie all spent time with the backs all would of brought more to the table then we dished up.

Watching the post match conference Petero & Elliott both were disappointed in our attack. We shown in the Canberra game that we can attack we just need to do it more regularly. Tahu needs to start for Tighe next week.

Look at the halves when we had in 03, Gower/Campbell, 91, Brandy/Izzard. Look at our current halves. There's your problem.

Use have the team to be a good side but elliot wont change it.
Tahu has to come in for earl. And move tighe to the WING.
Burns should move to hoooker. And use need to find a 5/8-I hear use have some good players in this area in under 20's.This would help walsh out cause at moment use have one point of attack.Kinga isnt playing well.Lewis and smith will stiffen up the forwards.Id seriously consider Coote at 5/8...

That's what I want to see. I'd rather have him properly fit before we try anything though. I'd be happy with Tahu as the starting centre. Tighe definitely to wing. Just keep Purtell out.

Honestly, where has that guy gone? This dream run of not having Purtell in the side has to end at some point.

Halves are the problem, or how they're coached, not sure which, don't rate Cootes passing or kicking game, wouldn't play him at 5/8.

Bingo. Presto/Brandy the flair. Izzard/Gower the clam/basic players. Either Walsh or Burn can be 7 WITH a running/passing 6 outside them. Neither run the ball. Burns plays on the left yet Jennings outside him gets no ball

The answer is not as simple as saying we had brandy carter gower presto. We plain and simple dont have anyone in the club in that league.Thats why i think we need to look outside the square and take chances .Coote to 5/8 even masada to half anything outside of what we are doing rignt now.We are just treading water

Masada is a rare talent. I've always thought he should be in the halves. When you have Kingston and Seluini (slecialist dummy halves) Masada needs to be pushed into the 6 or 7. He has the ability. He just needs a coach that is prepared to have a go.
