He comes off contract this year, and I think he deserves to be ressigned. Great in defence, good in attack and FANTASTIC positional play, lost a bit of speed but still a top shelf full back.

Yeah he was great along with the whole team. One of our best victories in a long time especially after being murdered by the refs in the first half.

he did play a great game today, one of his best for Souths so far however i would not sign him for next year for a top grade position. he has lost pace and will be slower next year , i cannot forget last week where he looked like a headless chook, what to give for a young Dugan clone!

I would prefer we pass on him for next year. We wouldnt lose anything with Merritt a fullback next year. Then go with simpson on the wing with a view to him going to the centres when best hangs up the boots or moves on as Champs is here to stay I believe.
Reece has been a great player but his best is behind him.

they will keep wesser for one more year with a look at using capewell at the end of his contract. we still have vaivai coming through i don't see the need to buy players but retain our youngsters as the rest of the side is relatively young. keep the core group together as we have over the past few years and as they become more familiar with each others style they will gel as was evident on sunday against canberra. sutto and luke both new the chip was coming from sandow and played accordingly.

If we can pick up a quality specialist fullback then let Rhys go if not keep him around until we steal one from another club or groom our own.

He wont leave Penrith.

Famous last words made by most Rugby League players. We can hope can't we? :p
I'd like to see Mal Webster step up at some point but he is a tiny totter and i couldnt see him lasting long in the top grade. We still have heaps of depth at fullback/wingers with the current first grade squad so i wouldnt be too fussed if Wesser left.

That's a cop out, Mal Webster is 70kg, He is 166 centimetres, Does that remind you of another certain tiny totter playing for a certain queensland based team.

if Mal can put on another 5kg by the start of next year, He'll be capable, He is certainly got the skills and vision to make it as a footballer.

i agree with hattrick but what about picking up someone like krisnan inu. when he hit the scene he hit it well and has been shown little confidence. he can play anywhere in the back 5 and if we can't keep wesser or best he would be a great pick up i feel

Inu is to lazy you need a fullback that is turned on for 80mins Dugan is the boy.

Rhys is far from lazy, he is slowing up but he is a great Fullback to keep around imo on a two year contract with an option for a third.

Sh!t Guys,

I think Wesser is a liability to your team.

Certainly not in the top 16 and certainly not NRL standard.

You guys deserve much better. The rest of your team looks great on paper, just needs your coach to ring Bellamy or Bennett for advice.

Regards

Yeah, he's a slug, I don't like to bag players unless they've earnt it but he needs some red bull or something before every game just to wake him up

It's strange to me that most people here think he's a good player. I think he's completely holding your team back, good fullbacks are essential these days and he's just not good enough anymore. Back in the day, all he had was his speed, and now he's lost that, he's got nothing.

At the peak of his form in the early 2000's he was a good 5 kilos lighter and quite a few yards quicker. His sheer pace was always his best asset and I'm afraid he has lost the edge and his best days are behind him.
